I agree- if you are concerned with clear vanilla giving a chemical taste- you won't like the taste of the super white. I think titanium dioxide is an additive that is food safe only in very small quantities- don't know if a small amount would have much effect on the final color of icing- and don't know if it is commercially available. Have you searched the cake supply sites?

The only sources for powdered food grade titanium dioxide that I have found are Asian, and their standards of what is considered food grade are different from ours, therefore may not be acceptible for use here in the US.

I have seen powdered titanium dioxide retailed here in the US, but only for cold porcelain, which is not edible. Therefore, I would not consider it food grade.

If anyone knows of a source for food grade or titanium dioxide, please share.

I tried the Wilton Super White and it lent a funky taste to my frosting, I covered with more vanilla, but that defeated the purpose, because it made my frosting beige again!

Oh no! I just used the Wilton Super White for the first time this past weekend. It was for my neices BD cake. I wanted to use butter and real vanilla in the icing, but didn't want that off white look. I didn't eat any of the cake, although I did taste the icing when I made it, and didn't notice an off taste. Does it get stronger after it sits? I haven't talked to my Sister so I don't know if anyone noticed a funny taste in the icing or not! Now I'm worried.
