ok making Bc for a wedding cake and I really want to use my butter and real vanilla recipe 'cuz i really dont like the imitation vanilla taste of the clear and i dont want all crisco bc so... i have done the violet bit and for me it works fine but it def. greys it some so i am wondering about the super white stuff- or should i try and find some titanium dioxide powder and if so where?? any thought s ????
I agree- if you are concerned with clear vanilla giving a chemical taste- you won't like the taste of the super white. I think titanium dioxide is an additive that is food safe only in very small quantities- don't know if a small amount would have much effect on the final color of icing- and don't know if it is commercially available. Have you searched the cake supply sites?
The only sources for powdered food grade titanium dioxide that I have found are Asian, and their standards of what is considered food grade are different from ours, therefore may not be acceptible for use here in the US.
I have seen powdered titanium dioxide retailed here in the US, but only for cold porcelain, which is not edible. Therefore, I would not consider it food grade.
If anyone knows of a source for food grade or titanium dioxide, please share.

Oh no! I just used the Wilton Super White for the first time this past weekend. It was for my neices BD cake. I wanted to use butter and real vanilla in the icing, but didn't want that off white look. I didn't eat any of the cake, although I did taste the icing when I made it, and didn't notice an off taste. Does it get stronger after it sits? I haven't talked to my Sister so I don't know if anyone noticed a funny taste in the icing or not! Now I'm worried.
thanks guys - i just dont knw what to do esp. since its a wedding cake !!
