Okay my daughters birthday party is this coming saturday. I need help getting the cake together and decorated so I have come here for your help. I made a 6, 8 10 inch round cakes. I will be using a cake 12 inch cake dummie for the base. I want to stack the cake so the will look like a castle. But my qurstion is I am not sure on how I want to cover the cake. So I want your opinion on my ideas or your own ideas if you dont mind sharing. I made my cakes with a strawberry flavor mix.
1 do you have any ideas what to use as a filling?
2 What would you cover them with? ( I was going to do chocolate BC and than white chocolate clay, bc I have to build the little stones and thought that would work perfect) What do you think about that?
3 Is there a way to get BC to stick to chocolate clay, that is on the outside of the clay?
4 Can I use royal icing on chocolate clay?
5 If you have any other ideas or suggestions please leave for me as this is all new for me.
Thanks Megan
Hi, I can really only answer the filling question, I made a stawberry cake and put the cheesecake mousse filling in it and it was wonderful, everyone loved it. Can't wait to see your cake. Did you look through the gallery at all the castles people have done, lots of great ideas.
Aww Sounds like a great birthday cake so far... I can answer the question about the royal icing...
Im sure you can use royal icing on the choc clay... Royal icing sticks to everything and anything... so I dont see a problem using it...
Sorry Im not much help on any of your other questions ![]()
I would use MMF w/buttercream underneath, but I've never worked w/chocolate clay to know the difference. Maybe green MMF for the bottom tier for "grass", then blue for a "moat", then the last three in white for the castle and top it w/an upside-down sugar cone covered w/MMF.
The castle cake I made for my daughter was strawberry too (gotta have PINK EVERYTHING)...and I just used buttercream decorations...but it was a quicky and not as fancy as a tiered cake.
I agree w/checking out the galleries and search the forums for more castle info...there are tons around here!
I am staying far away from MMF for a while and were I dont have to be under pressure bc the last time I needed it, it didnt work out for me! I already have blue fanci foil I was going to cover the board with and than take some BC to make grass. And than a pink and purple castle for my princess! I have been looking at pics and have gotten some great ideas from a pic here and there. I think I have looked through about 20 pages so far. Thanks for the help.
I recently made a castle cake for my Daughter's birthday. Mine wasn't as complex as yours, but I was pretty happy with it. As far as filling, the cheesecake idea is right up my ally. But what will your daughter and her friends most likely eat (aside from the frosting only -- like my kids
)? I've found that plain is a good way to go with the crowd around my house since they are so picky.
I covered my castle cake in BC and tried to smooth it out as much as possible. I like the look of fondant but not much else. I used fondant only for the accents. Originally planned on using a stone impression mat on the BC, but I am not skilled at that yet and it just looked goofy. I have noticed some CCers pipe big BC dots and then press them down slightly after they have crusted. This gives a nice stone impression.
I am not familiar with clay so can't be much help there. Will you use it for accents or as a covering? My guess would be that BC could be used on it.
I agree with Delicate-Lee about the royal icing. It should be fine to use.
Sounds like this will be a grand cake. can't wait to see the final product.
BTW, good grief your children are cute!!!
