My family are going to be in Minnesota next month on vacation.. Any suggestions on what to do? I know the Mall of America is a must see, but what else?

Are you planning on staying in the Twin Cities area? There are museums and stuff, I'm not sure exactly what but there are. If the zoos are open there won't be much to see, it's too cold to put the animals out in March.
If you want to visit lakes and do other outdoor things you need to wait until May or later.
My parents live in Minnesota and last year everyone was shocked that the kids could go out without jackets on Easter and that was in April. It's not unusual to have snow yet or to have a big mud pit because the snow just melted.
The amusement parks don't open until May.

I'm sorry to say, but March really isn't a good time to vacation in Minnesota! We usually get a blizzard toward the beginning of March and then it usually is pretty muddy. Where will you be staying? Once I know that I can try to come up with some stuff for you guys to do! icon_biggrin.gif

We're staying at the Grand Lodge in Bloomington.. It's supposed to be close to the mall!

Well, there is tons of stuff in the mall!
The MN zoo is still fun to go to in the winter I think. I've been there twice in the winter. You can walk around in the tropical building most of the day and then go over to the aquarium section and enjoy the large tanks and the indoor dolphin show. The tigers and wolves will most likely be out in their cages since they are used to the cold.

Don't listen to the naysayers!!!!!!
Minnesota is fantastic even at the end of winter!!!!!

This is just a sampling of our attractions. Let me know if you would like more childrens things to do and what ages. If you are interested in more dining facilities let me know and I can send you some more great suggestions:

Per capita our theater district is second only to New York! I will highly recommend:
The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams is playing at the Guthrie (adults)
Huck Finn is onstage at The Childrens Theatre (I interned here - it is a fabulous theater and great for family)

The Minneapolis Institute of Art (I got my undergraduate degree kitty corner from the museum and was there everyday) it is free and open to the public and during the month of March is showing San Francisco Psychedelic Posters and Photos.

The Park at the Mall of America is always a wise destination.
Underwater Adventures Aquarium under the Mall is another great choice for MOA.

If you have children coming the Childrens Museum in St. Paul is tops.

The Science Museum is state of the art and you can catch a show in the Omnitheater: the Vikings: Journey to New Worlds is showing.

Get some appetizers at Figlio an Italian/Manhattan style bistro and catch the show at the ComedySportz at Calhoun Square.

I may also have a sugar sculpture art piece in the 7th Annual Spiritual Art Festival (nonsectarian and nondenominational) show the last week in March. PM me if you be around and interested and I will send you directions.
