I know if you use a lot of coloring it will change the flavor especially if your using a lot of red. Which brand of coloring are you using? I use Wilton's no taste red. Ive heard from this site that Americolor is really good.
Can't help about the taste, but I have found that once my color sets up (a few hours or the next day), it tends to be more tru to color than when it is freshly made.
I dont' see how this batch of icky semi-red icing can be saved. But if you're set on saving it I would think just addding it to more white bc to create a huge batch of pink ![]()
I don't know how picky you are about your icing but whenever I am going to need red (which is mostly used for accents anyway) I buy the tubes of ready made icing from the grocers and us it as my starter. That is I add it to my own bc and then add more food color. Also, make your reds one or two nights before so the icing can really take in the food color and then add more from there. Good luck.
Maybe just make another batch of buttercream with no color to add to the pink batch. It will change the color for sure, but I don't know if it will help the taste or not. If it's very strong bitter it probably won't help much, but if it is mildly bitter this could help I think. This is the only thing I could think of that may help get rid of the bitter flavor.
i just did what DiscoLady said to do i went to the store and bought a all ready made tube of icing i think it was DH strawberry flavor and i add it to the icing and it taste good now.. thank goodness cause this cake is due tomorrow.... well as for the red i just am not using it cause it's not red i bought also the Red liquid food coloring and it just made it more orange or peach color so i put off to the side for another day... i am going to be looking into buying americolor so i won't have this problem again... thank you all for your help.....so i got one cake down and starting on the other.....
