A lady wants cakes for her mom's 50th birthday. She wants a 12x18 decorated like a tombstone, and a pretty tiered cake also. Total they need to serve about 100 people. 1. Would the half sheet and a 10" and 6" tiered cake serve that many? --or do I need bigger tiers?
Any ideas or pics for a relatively simple tiered cake? I was thinking maybe polka dots..... or maybe even a light colored rosette cake like the ones in my gallery. Would that look stupid tiered? Thanx in advance for your help.
What would you charge for this job?? I used to work with her, so I'd give her a little break, but I was thinking $90-100 for both. Too much, too little??

I'm not sure about the number of servings but here is a picture that may help inspire you.

I would maybe go with a 10" and an 8", then the half sheet. Make sure you show them what a typical serving size is, or they will probably cut the pieces too big and not get enough from it.

I like the polka dot cake in your pics! maybe you could do something like that?

Gee, I know I'd appreciate a tombstone cake for a milestone b-day. I hope the mom remembers to observe her dd's big ones. i was going to suggest a beautiful cake design i just saw on her but you lost me with the tombstone idea. Good luck.

Is your sheet cake going to be one layer or two?

As for servings I would check with your customer and see if they are planning on only doing desert (will most likely require party size portions) or if they will be having a full meal at the party also. (can go for smaller portions)

Also remember that if your sheet cake is one layer you will probably want a 2" x 2" but if it is 2 layer a 1" x 2" will be good with the taller cake.

Thanx everyone for your help. sweetbaker- I love the "60" on top of that cake! Cool idea! What is is made of? I'm thinking of trying to sell her the idea of the polka dots like the one I made, only tiered
CarolAnn- I'm with you on the tombstone... poor lady! I guess that's why they want one pretty, one silly.... so that she doesn't feel so bad. icon_rolleyes.gif
Leily... yes, I thought of that too. There is going to be a big party with a big meal, so I think the one layer sheet will be fine.
Thanx everyone! icon_biggrin.gif
