Okay so I've never done the little teddy bear pan - the mini one. I've baked the cakes but do you crumb coat them or just start piping stars??

Second question - how do you keep track of where the arms & stuff should be if you're piping over them?? Do you outline them at all?

Third question - if you're putting the bears on top of another cake - do you usually dowel them? I was going to put two bears on an 8 in. square cake. Do I need to dowel them or just put a bunch of icing under? I will be traveling with them but not more than 15 min. away prob.....

I appreciate anyone who can help!!

First, I do crumb coat because it helps the stars stick, plus you can do you outline on the arms and eyes and such and it shows up.

I would definitely dowel if you are putting 2 bears on top of the cake. I think that is too much weight otherwise.

Be sure and post a photo when you finish!

Yes, I do crumb coat. It's a little more of a pain, but it won't take too long on that small bear. After I crumb coat, then I take a toothpick and outline or I just look at the picture on the box and use it as a guide.

I've only made the little bear once and I didn't crumb coat, I outlined what I was going to need before I started filling in with the stars.
I don't think you need to dowell, mine was on a cake with a mini doll skirt and it's about the size of a bear.

Okay this was tough! I did dowel the bears and then kept my hand really close to the bear as I decorated it. That way I could kind of "turn" the bear as I went.... sort of like it was sitting on a large flower nail (hmm ideas maybe...) this made it more difficult to stick into the cake though!

I had trouble with the arms - I tried to outline them.... the brown bear wasn't as cute as the white one. I'm just not really sure how you make the arms stand out when the body & arms are the same. Anyway, here's my final photo for these bears icon_smile.gif

Thanks for your help!
