Oh, poor thing! I feel your pain. Take a deep breath and keep repeating to yourself..." It was out of my control, it was out of my control..."

I know how you feel. For my birthday my MIL bought me a cake from walmart. I'm such a spoiled baby but I seriously wanted to cry after I tasted it. Don't get me wrong. she is the most wonderful MIL in the world. next year I am going to "offer" to make my own cake. icon_smile.gif

Is it bad that we actually enjoyed my son's third birthday cake that was from Walmart? Ok, so it's not fantastic, and it's part of the reason I wanted to learn to do this stuff (Walmart was the ONLY place that did Cars birthdays around here due to the shortage of kits), but I didn't think it was awful. Of course, I like really sweet icing. icon_wink.gif

Sugar, don't get me wrong I think the cake part or the fillings are ok it's just that stuff they wanna pass off as buttercream is sooo sweet that you get that funky feeling in the back of your throat when you eat it. I couldn't ever stand it, it doesn't crust very well and if it's stiff it's very hard to get smooth (definitely no time whatsoever for crumb coats)and the stuff has a very bad habit of turning transparent on warm days and try as you might the cake still shows through. Just some of the reasons I don't like wallymart bc (from Best Brands).

Honey I feel so bad for you...you'll get through it with all the support from us here at CC!! icon_razz.gif

Okay, so here's my own little confession for the week. My BD was on Thursday...DH totally KNOWS better than to bring me a grocery store cake. My three little babies (5, 4 & 2) wouldn't let him rest- MOM HAD TO HAVE A CAKE....bless his heart...he went to Baskin Robbins and bought an ice cream cake and he apoligized for it as they all sang. Too funny, huh?

Cakedecor...keep your chin up...we all have to lower ourselves every once in a while! LOL!!! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

I have a wedding tasting coming up on Friday. Cupcake wedding (will be my first) And the bride told me her fiance tried a cupcake from wally world and scraped off all of the icing and just ate the cake! He didn't care for that. So, I'm hoping they like one of the three icings I'm making for them!

Well, I must be the worst mother in the world then. When my daughter got married the FIRST time...I came down to Florida with a dummy cake in the trunk and all the things to make her sheet cakes to cut in the kitchen.

Was using my mother's ovens and she "forgot" to tell me her oven ran hot..so..I burnt her cakes!

Had to go to the local supermarket to have something to serve. I was mortified..and wanted to cry.

At her next wedding...(yeah she divorced the first one before they passed the 1 year anniversary!..lol) I had wanted to "make it up" to her, but she "politely" told me the venue would provide.

My daughter is a label junkie...and detests anything "homemade"...as if!

My co-workers kept telling me I HAD to taste (local bakery)'s cakes because they were so good! They all chipped in bought me one for my birthday. First, I found it funny that they advertise that their cakes are never frozen, but my supervisor had to take the cake back because it was so frozen solid that we couldn't cut it! She made them cut a piece in the bakery to prove to her that it wasn't frozen! When we finally got the cake cut and served, I took one bite and told them all (who were all standing around waiting for my reaction), "Yep. That's a bakery cake all right!" I think it's one of those traditional things .... everyone says it's the best cake because everyone has always SAID it's the best cake, not because it actually IS the best cake!

My uncle and soon to be aunt bought there wedding cake from Wal mart. The person who made the cake had no clue how to assemble a cake that had a tier. They didn't put the dowls in it. The rest of the kit didn't work either. The plastice pillars wouldn't stay togther. We even trie to hot glue the platic pieces to stay together. They kept falling apart. They had asked me to make it but didn't hve enough time and it was out of state. I just didn't see me traveling with 2 kids and a wedding cake.

I recently had a piece of Sam´s cake (a friends baby´s 1st birthday) and to tell you the truth, I did like the taste of the cake, not crazy about the icing though, they had the traditinal yellow and it wasn´t bad, at all... (maybe it is because I just love cake. period. icon_rolleyes.gif ) They served it with Ben and Jerry´s Chunky Monkey (monkey themed party, cute), maybe that helped? Anyway, I did like it but DH said, "not even close to yours, babes" he is too sweet. icon_lol.gif
