I am really wanting to practice a couple of really cool cakes i've seen here on cc. And I know for a fact that i will need the practice, so does anyone know how to make a fake cake? I don't want to do styrophome or anything, i want it to be close to the texture of a cake so i can practice carving and sculpting and stuff, but i don't want to keep wasting cake mix and stuff. Any ideas?

i can't think of a way to keep the cake texture and not use real cake! but how about just making the cake and giving it to someone? that way its not wasted, and you get the practice you need!

That's what I do! Just make it and then give it away! It allows me to practice as much as I want as well as try different combos. Just make sure that you let people know that that is what you are doing. Experimenting and practicing! Otherwise they may expect "free" cakes all the time!

I've only done a few cakes, I need the practice too. The one's I do, I send to work with my husband. It is good because I get to practice and someone gets cake. I can make a tasty cake, I am just trying to make them pretty.
