Yes, I've done it, and it came out just fine. The chocolate did not melt the icing, it hardened very quickly. I did two cakes like that. I covered a chocolate cake with chocolate icing and had the swirls done from the Wilton melts in chocolate, and the other one was vanilla cake iced in white icing with the Wilton melts in white chocolate swirls. They both looked beautiful.

It should be alright just let the candy cool down a little if you are worried that the icing will melt.
