Howdy ~ this is my first post, but I need some feedback about pricing.

What would the charge be for a cake like this [see pic]? Cake statistics are as follows: 8 in top / 10 in bottom; buttercream filling, icing and borders; decorations cost about $5.00;

Thanks for any input ~ I am new to cake decorating and I am still getting a feel for charging. I don't want to over-charge but I want to get paid what the cake is worth.

Thanks!
LL

Some ppl go with the costing method of igredient cost plus labor cost x3. In order to do this you would have to figure out how much your time is worth. This method usually works for me for smaller jobs, but as you know ppl want a standard method of pricing. Especially for repeat customers. Most cake decorators charge per serving but that might not work in your best interest for smaller jobs. Personally I charge a per serving fee for any order over 100 servings. Anything smaller than that I charge a flat rate fee, that way I know the smaller jobs will be worth my time as well as the larger ones.

kristiezen920 - what a great way to look at pricing cakes! Thanks for the tip (even though I didn't put the original post icon_wink.gif ).

If it's basic flavors and buttercream filling I charge $2.25 per serving. This cakes serves 50 so this would be $112.50.

For qand 8 and a 10 I wouldn't charge less than $70-$75. I would charge around $50 for a 6 and 8 inch.

I am very spendy and charge $2.50 per serving before anything. Because they are not getting a cake from me but a Sugar Art Sculpture. All the extras are additional (i.e. fondant, delivery, special fruit filling & etc.)

Quick question: What do you have on top of that cake? If it is a fondant plaque, add $5.00.

I charge extra for delivery. $25 for the first 10 miles and $1 per mile after that.

I would say $65 seems reasonable. It doesn't look too complicated but just the servings itself would cost around there for me... but I'm pretty cheap in serving costs at $1.25...

The top is actually a name card that I made on the computer and just stuck on top of the cake.

I delivered this cake to the client but didn't charge a delivery fee. I ended up charging $75.00 [50 servings @ $1.50/serving]. That is the cheaper rate around here [near Raleigh, NC]. With all your input, I feel like she got a good deal at $75.00. I just wanted to make sure I hadn't ripped her off!

Thanks!
