Do you use the same size servings for wedding cakes and party cakes? I need a round cake for a shower with 13 people. Would you recommend an 8", which should serve 16, or go with a 9" just to be safe?

Thanks!

The Wilton books list a separate scale for party servings. 8" says it will serve 20 and 9" will serve 24. I personally would make a 9" cake because not everyone cuts cake the same way.

I do use the same (party) size for both, and I make it a selling point during wedding cake consultations. My brides are unlikely to run out of cake, even if someone inexperienced is doing the cutting and serving. If they're worried about too much cake leftover - I can usually downsize it somewhat.

Ditto that comment.
