Hi all, hope you have some good advice! I am making a baby block shower cake for a friend. Cake is 8 in x 8 in x 8 in. I want to cover it in fondant, then attach a smaller square inlay (made of fondant) on each side with a BC or royal icing letter piped on. My question is, will the fondant inlay attach easily to the fondant cake with just water, or should I use something else? What are the chances that one of the inlays falls off? Also, what kind of problems am I in for in covering a cake that tall? Any idea how much fondant is needed just to cover? I'm getting pretty nervous about it. Also, bottom layers are rice krispies wrapped in plastic, top two layers are white cake with raspberry filling. Thank you!! party.gif

I use "glue" made from tylose and water to stick fondant to fondant or I mix hot water to a little fondant and let it sit so it forms a thick paste, then use that. I have also used royal icing.

as for your other questions....sorry I'm no help there!!!

good luck with your cake!! thumbs_up.gif

Water is like glue when sticking fondant to fondant. Are you making your own? MMF? One batch would be plenty for your block. The only trouble I would have is getting the sides smooth...like around the corners of the block...I still struggle with those!!!

The only problem that you might find with fondant is it may dry out on the edges and crack if you dont work with it fast enough. Before you start smoothing and before you stick the sides down if you lift the iciing up alittle and use the palms of your hand and smooth in an upwards motion this should remove the cracks... (Hope this helps and its hard to explain... easier to show, sorry)

To stick fondant onto fondant you can use a mixture of tylo and water or royal icing.

you can also add some water to your fondant and mix till you get a tacky almost like royal icing to attach your fondant pieces to fondant. I use water normally and if it doesn't stik they I use the above method. You just add one drop at a time and stir.
