I am assembling a 9 x 13 cake with cookies and cream filling.
I had 2 nice layers and decided to use a bunch of extra pieces (don't ask
) to make a third layer.
So I put down the 1st nice layer, added my filling, topped it with a bunch of cake scraps which I sort of pieced together to make a layer
, added more filling and then topped with another nice layer.
I'm not quite sure why I did that but now I'm worried that when they cut the cake they will see that the middle layer is just a bunch of scraps pushed together.
I'm ready to ice it but I'm wondering if I should start over again before I waste any more ingredients if this isn't going to work.
Has anyone done this before? How does it look when cut? Can you tell?
I can guess but I would prefer hearing from someone who has actually had this experience and seen the cut cake afterwards. Also worried that the middle tier might not support the top tier since it's not one solid piece? The cake is about 5" high and I haven't iced it yet ![]()
THanks to anyone who can answer in a hurry, I'm about to ice it now.
not sure, but here is a bump...u could always cut off 1/4" off one of the sides and look.......
I've never done it, but my questions are: Is it for a paying customer? If so, did they order a three layer cake?
I have done that! One of my chocolate cakes completely fell apart and I didn't have time to bake another one, so I "glued" it together. It was perfectly fine when it was cut. Don't worry it will be fine
Yes, it is for a paying customer.
They did not order a 3 layer cake, just a "rectangular cake, smaller than 1/2 a sheet cake" but they have only ever ordered my 8" rounds before which are 3 layers.
I guess that's why I tried to add the middle layer, to make it more like what they might expect.
