Shelf Life Of Cake/cookies
Decorating By camouflagegirl Updated 8 Feb 2007 , 7:00pm by camouflagegirl
I have an order for 2 dozen sugar cookies and a chocolate cake for Valentine's Day. We are delivering it Sunday, and leaving town on Saturday morning (we'll take it with us on Saturday). What is the shelf life of sugar cookies? If I make them today, are they going to last until Wednesday? What about the cake, especially if I used whipped ganache for my icing?
The cookies should be fine as long as you package them well. I put mine in treat bags and tie them really tight.
As for the cake, I am not so sure. That seems like a long time. I would think it needs to be refrigerated. Maybe someone else can answer on the cake.

Please, I need to know soon, so I can start baking, or hold off another day.
I wouldn't be terribly interested in eating week-old baked goods.
Sorry.
My friend just wrote to me, and told me that their party is MONDAY. What about that? When is the earliest I can bake for Monday?
I have refrigerated cakes for four or five days and they come out fine. Still moist and delicious for a couple of days AFTER I take them out. I also made sugar cookies over the holidays that people were munching on for weeks and they were still soft. I am no expert and other more experienced people might have different advice, but I think you'll be just fine.
Thank you! That is JUST what I wanted to hear (but wanted to be safe, too)! I have so much going on tomorrow, that I was hoping to get be able to get everything out of the way soon.
