I made a white chocolate tiara and it looked beautiful! I let it dry for more than 24hrs. after applying 4 coats! The darn thing still broke when I tried releasing it, and I was very gentle icon_cry.gif What am I doing wrong???

Nevermind! I did it again, except this time, I took the advice of a fellow CCer and greased the wax paper. I also put it in the window for 10 minutes so that it would become even more firm, and it worked! Only one piece broke off, right on the end. I added more melted chocolate to it, pieced it back together, and now I'm just sitting here praying that it doesn't break again before my little cousin gets to see it (it's part of her birthday cake).Whew!

I feel your pain, I have been trying to do a very elaborate detailed tiara out of royal icing. So far 3 attempts, everyone has broken, it gets a little better each time. I was not greasing the wax paper either but next time I will, someone suggested that to me also. I am also going to do at least 3 layers, I have been doing just 2. Good Luck with yours!!!!!! thumbs_up.gif

Next time you do one use parchment instead of wax paper. I have done several and not one has broken. I never have used wax paper though, and never had to grease my paper. Maybe that is a trick to save you so me grief next time. Good luck!

I was finally able to do one without it breaking icon_biggrin.gif It's in my photos. And actually, when I did my first tiara that broke I used parchment paper icon_confused.gif I think greasing the wax paper is what did it for me, and getting it really hard for at least a couple of minutes by sticking it some place cold. Word to the wise though, do NOT release it from the can until you are ready to place it on the cake!

You won't believe what I use. I use one of those old fashion photo album pages, the ones you lift the plastic up to protect your picture. (It's never been used for anything else) Then I put the whole thing in the freezer, (crisco can and all) I leave it about 10 minutes and it works great. I don't have to grease anything, I just whipe my photo album sheet and put it alway until the next time.
