I'm sure someone has done these. I was thinking of doing something like that for Valentines Day for grandparents. Any suggestions on decorating them?

Maybe you could do the sign for I Love U in sign language. The 2 middle fingers bent forward on the palm. Or put a little heart on the palm. HTH

Those are great for kids birthday parties -- especially little girls parties! Have the person put their hand down and trace it, use that as a template to cut your cookies and if it's a girl, use pink fondant for "painted" fingernails. Very cute! The kids could decorate their own cookies as a party activity.

You can also bake fairly big circles, and then flood them with white icing. (let it dry) Make some pretty runny colored icing and put it on a plate. Have the child put his/her palm and fingers in the icing, and then onto the iced cookies. This will make handprints like kids do with paint on paper.

I recommend making a couple of practice prints before doing it onto the cookies. Also, pastel colors work well without risk of staining the kiddos hands.

Edited to add: I meant to say you should use Royal Icing, for this, not buttercream. At least, I've never tried it with buttercream but don't know if the watering down would work very well with BC.

I was thinking the same thing RedPanda, but couldn't figure out the logistics of it. Kids handprints would be really cute.

Another thing you could do, along the lines of the other suggestions is have some cookies already made and flooded with Royal Icing and dried (maybe 48 hours dry) then when the kids get there, put their hand on their cookie and trace it with a food doodler (food marker.) Then they can put fondant on the fingernails or overpipe or whatever to decorate it to their little heart's content!icon_biggrin.gif

Great Ideas! thumbs_up.gif Thanks so much. I was going to go the route of pb cookies but now I have changed my mind.

redpanda-
I love your idea of handprints! I'm going to have to try it.
