Is Chocolate Clay Supposed To Do This???

I just made my first batch of chocolate clay. I melted a bag of white candy melts and wanted to color it first so I added some Americolor Burgandy coloring. Because it's gel paste and not candy color, I added some Flo Coat to keep it from seizing. I don't like the flo coat and always need to add so much of it to keep the chocolate smooth. So I added a bunch and added my color. Then I added the 1/3 cup of corn syrup. When stirring the corn syrup in, I noticed a bit of liquid pooling underneath the candy clay. Is it supposed to emit this liquid or did I screw it up with the flo coat or by coloring it too soon? I was hoping having to avoid kneading it. I've never heard of chocolate clay doing this so if I'm on the wrong track here, let me know! Is there any hope for this batch???
It's fine. It looks gloppy and funky right after you make it. Let it sit for a while and it will be fine. ![]()
Yes that is what it did when I made it for my chocolate slab cake flowers. It was very oily and wet but I just put it in plastic wrap and then in a plastic bag and waited for it to cure. It went rock hard but I just cut a small portion off and popped it into the microwave to soften, rolled it into a ball and placed inside a plastic bag and rolled it in there, then took it out and made my shapes. See my photo gallery for flowers.
okay. So I freaked out last night when I saw the oily liquid, figuring I screwed up with the flo coat. I poured a lot of teh liquid off, wrapped it up, and let it sit overnight (there was a lot of liquid). This morning, the remaining oily liquid formed kind of a hard "shell" on top that was lighter in color than the rest so I scraped off the shell and the stuff underneath, once kneaded, was very soft and pliable. Do you think I messed it up? It seems to be very workable now but I'm afraid that as it sets up and dries it may get VERY hard and dry due to the liquid that I disposed of. Any thoughts?
I am not sure it is messed up noe or not. But I do know that when I made candy clay, I thought the same thing! But, I just let is rest overnight and then kneaded it all together the next day. It turned out fine. I was wondering if I had done something wrong as well.
