I've tried luster dusts a couple times and it's not opaque. How much do I have to use? Does the icing underneath have to be white if I'm using silver or pearl?

Here's a picture of the cake I made this weekend. I didn't have white fondant so I used lavender thinking it would be good under silver. It just looks purple!

Thanks for your help!

Whenever I've used the dusts, I put it on white. I've not used it over colored icings. The only one that I have tried that might cover color completely is the gold aztec color - it was really heavy in color, but the others are very "thin" in coloring so they work well over white so that their color is the only one you see.

But the cake looks cool even in purple! I like it!
