I am doing a anniversary cake and they brought me real daisies to put on the top of the cake. So how do you put the stems in the cake so people can still eat the cake? thanks for all the help
Jennifer
Go to Micheal's and purchase the "flower stem" holders. In the cake decorating isle. I believe 4 come in a bag. These are for real flowers and can be placed in the cake and removed when ready to slice.

What if it is for Saturday and I live 2 hours away from a town that would have anything like that. Do you have any other suggestions?
I will definitely get some next time I go there. I already added it to my list.

Good call Juleebug ! You read my mind..
Much cheaper and really if you are not going to be there to "snag" the flower stem holders back... Straws are the best bet for throw away. I have used the bindy straws and ..bend the straw (which will be your bottom) and cut the straw to the length you need (so as not to show) and while pinching the bindy part closed.... INSERT in the cake..
**just a note to self... when you go to Wendy's.. I always ask for extra straws.. they are really big (wide) and you can put several flower stems in one straw or for larger flowers it works really well. i still do the bindy thing on these straws so there is no chance the flower stem gets pushed into the cake.

Straws are a great idea!
I always wrap the stems in saran wrap as an extra precaution in case flowers fall out or tip over - so the stem doesn't ever touch the cake.
I'd wrap the ends of the stems in saran wrap if using straws since the end is open- but I'm overly cautious.
Oh- and when I use cake spikes- the cost of each spike is worked into the cost of the cake. That way I don't have to worry about getting them back. I've had people bring them back anyway (usually the recycle type people ), but then my own sister who lives 9 houses away didn't bring back the ones I used in my nephews cake. It's bet to just tack on the 3-5 bucks to the cost of the cake.
sounds like a good idea, the only ting I would ask is whether the flowers would last well without being stuck in oasis.
If they last well it would be very handy if I need to put say one large flower on the side of a tier.

Doesn't cake get into the straws when you push the straws in? Oh, I think I answered my own question. Would you poke the straw in, pull it out, then put a new straw in with the hollow part hollow and add the flower?
