Making a cake this weekend for a lady at works daughter. It's in the shape of a peace sign and she wants buttercream icing done in tie dye design. Anyone know of a good was to do this? Should I just put the different colors on in swirls and then just mix them with a toothpick? I really want this to look nice for her!

what i have done for my tie dye cakes is first base ice with white buttercream.then before it crusts use an angled spatula lightly apply the colors in whatever pattern you want then smooth with a flat scrapper then take a toothpick to make the lines of the tie dye pattern. hth if any more questions feel free to pm me

I did a "groovy" cake for a client this past year, and I used several different colors in stripes on the top (it was a rectangle) then took my decorators comb and pulled it down along with the stripes like a wavy line, then pulled it across them. It came out pretty cool. I also found some free clip art from the 60's & 70's printed on edible sheets, and cut them out in different sizes, it looked wacked! The client loved it. I didn't think it was totally appropriate to post on here so I didn't. If you would like you could pm me and I can email you what it looked like.
