I have been helping out a friend teach cake classes, very Saturday afternoon.... At first there were about 8-10 ladys caming to class, now we would be lucky if we can get one caming....
Slowly the ladys have just droped.....
Now that I'm helping her, I would like to see the classes full again.... What can I do, to make that happen???
the cakes we have been making, last week was a wonky cake (3 people came)
this past weekend was flip flop cake(1 lady came)
And this caming weekend we will be making canework tulips cake.... (idea came from ACD book)
The class time is on saturdays, from 5-7pm and each class is $10...
If you can help me in anyway, Please let me know...... Thanks
1st - I'd change the time of the class.
that's prime weekend party, movie, BBQ, be out and about (still at or returning from beach/park/ride/etc.) time.
I'd put in early in AM -- like 8-10 or on a different day and then early evening 6-8 or 7-9.
Is this a class for beginners or more advanced? The ideas that you have been doing sound like a lot of fun, but if a person is just wanting to learn enough to make a cake for their kid's birthday, then these are well above anything they think they can do.
It might be better to have classes with very simple designs. Teach image transfer techniques, basic piping skills, and even how to put frosting on a cake so that crumbs aren't showing. I have taught classes before and these things may seem simple to us, but for the average person this stuff is HARD.
Having a series of classes might also help. Start with beginners, then move up to slightly more difficult work. As the classes grow, then people will become more confident and decide to take on the fun type cakes you are describing.
Besides, for $10, it seems that you are teaching a lot of techniques for practically nothing. Seriously, $5 per hour for 2 people to teach? Raise your prices.

these classes are advanced.... All the people coming to these classes have to have taken all 4 courses of the Wilton classes... This is just something Special we are doing....
for people who want to learn more then just what the Wilton classes have shown them....
She (friend) dropped the prices thinking it will bring people back to class
prices started at $20 a class...
I just dont want to see these classes go away, I have learned alot form them, I have made cake that I would have never made before these classes.... Some are in my pictures if you would like to see, (shaggy puppy, dragon, elmo and cookie monster, Aladdin cake) there are aolt more....
by 5-7 pm on a Saturday I'm already tired from a full busy day, it's hot (texas), and I want to relax and/or be out with close family & friends. I'd have to agree with Doug on the time change.
okay thanks yall ,
I will talk to friend to see if she wants to change the time.....
thanks again for all your help
