I need a new ribbon cutter. Preferably one that has the stitching detail in it and I need to find a decent one ASAP. Please send me any suggestions and, if you would be so kind, a picture of ribbon after you've used the cutter (you don't have to, but I'd really appreciate it).
I just received an order in the mail that I placed with a certain cake decorating supply company, who shall remain nameless and the doggone ribbon cutter sucks ! I need a new one before the 11th of April, so any help is appreciated!
I don't have any experience with them; but I googled "images" of "ribbon cutter" and could see several pictures of different ones. You can click on the image that looks like a good one and it also has the website it's from.
Okay, I didn't think to try that. Thanks...anyone else have experience (a good one) with any particular ribbon cutters?
I can only tell you not to buy the Wilton one, after that, I am not your best bet. I don't have a good one either, and will happily steal any advice you are given here.
Yep, that's the one they sent me...sure didn't have it in the product description or I would've chucked it out of my shopping cart with the quickness.
Oh boy, I put it together and started trying to roll it and decided it was going to be worthless. Greeeat!
the wilton ribbon cutter is worthless, How thin of a ribbon do you need, I have used a herb cutter. It looks like the ped-egg thing but has little wheels in it. You are supposed to use it for chopping cilantro and leafy(sp) herbs. I found one that is about 3/8 inch apart at the grocery store. I love it. Best luck.
This is the one I have and I love it http://www.bakedeco.com/detail.asp?id=14195&trng=fgle I bought it after getting rid of the Wilton one.
Ew, jlynn... come on! Haven't I told you about my hyperactive sense of imagination. Now all I can think about it someone using an old dirty ped-egg on a cake that is going in my mouth. Huagh, huagh! *gagging*
It's not my fault. I have a vivid imagination which is what makes me a great writer. But it sucks for visuals. You say it... I see it... then my mind goes even farther with it.
Thank you, thank you! All this time I thought I was just to dumb to use a stupid plastic cutter!!!!!!!!!!!
Go for what makes things easier pkinkema!
My mom lives in North Richland Hills, you know where that is?
OK, Mel, I am on the way to vomit city with you. A ped egg also grates hard fondant and chocolate. It makes it like sand. Freeze chocolate.
I thought it was just me. I never have been able to get that stupid Wilton ribbon cutter to work. In fact, the last time I used it I think I ended up throwing it across the room.
The Ped egg idea for shaving fondant/chocolate is a great idea.
I like the FMM one. Kind of a "Huh?" When you first use it. (Lots of pieces to move about to get the width you want.) But I like it.
the FMM one is the best... i,ve used it for years.. sugarshack uses it in her boxes and bows dvd. everyone love it.. global sugar art would sell it also..hth
Okay, I hate that about Wilton. It's like they're putting out crap that they know doesn't work and they could care less if their customers are dissatified with the product.
LOL! Uh...no, not even a little bit. She loves to watch me though. She retired from Carswell AFB when it was still open. She served 27 years 11 months and 6 days (she makes me break it down just like that) in the Air Force.
Hey, Mel, want to know about any other tools I use???
Sorry, sending a barf bag your direction. Wilton just seems to make it and hope it works, if not too bad so sad, you already bought it.
This is the one I have and I love it http://www.bakedeco.com/detail.asp?id=14195&trng=fgle I bought it after getting rid of the Wilton one.
I bought the FMM last month at the Austin cake show and happily threw the Wilton one away!
I also use an herb mincer/cutter that I found at Winners although their stock is always different so not sure if they will always have it. I got mine for $10 CDN and it works like a charm but can only make straight cuts but I still love it!
Oh btw, the ribbons on this cake were cut using it. There is only one width too...that's another down side to it but it is one I would use often so still a worthwhile tool and it saves time

I got a second mincer thing and took tin snips to it and cut off every other blade. The strips are twice as wide. I don't know how well it works but will try soon. (Went and got one after reading this to try it)
Hey Tita and Pkink
I have a friend that I have lost touch with and the last time I talked to her, her parents were still in North Richland Hills. Wouldn't it be amazing if you knew them? Her parents last name is Klose.
My friends DH was a chef at a restaurant somewhere down there, but i'm not sure where.
Just thought it was worth a try that you might know them
TERI!! Where the heck have you been? We've missed you!
Thank you to everyone who has helped me in this. I'll find someone to give that stinking wilton one too or better yet, I can let the kiddos use it with their playdough.
I think I'm going to go for the FMM one, that's the one I was going to get originally anyway. I'll let you know how it works out. That herb mincer thing- I still can't picture it in my mind.
