I'm doing a pond theme cake for a customer and I thought I'd put a couple cattails (bullrushes) on it. I noticed on one of the cakes on Wilton's site that they used florist wire to put them on and then into the cake. I'm wondering if I can put the florist wire (it hasn't been cut) directly into the cake without flower picks. I tried to find some but the only ones I could find were way too big to put in the cake. Any thoughts?

I did a cake using cat tails once and used spaghetti noodles to insert them into the cake and it gave the cat tail a really nice look too...I used toostie rolls for the cat tail...I broke a piece off warmed the toosie roll up with my hands and fingers and formed them onto the spaghetti noodles leaving just a tad of the noodle sticking out from the top and had some really awesome cat tails...

I have used toothpicks with fondant formed on the end to make the top. Just remember to tell them about the toothpicks.

To put wires in a cake they have to be covered by florist tape. They say when a sugar flower is on wire it cant be eaten. Scott clark woolley knows alot about it. Toothpicks are good too.
