My Mom and I are working on a cake together-she's making the cake, I'm making the fondant figure (Curious George). I made a prototype today, just out of white fondant (I will add gumpaste and coloring to the real thing). I made each piece seperately, now how do I stick them all together? Do I wait until each piece dries then "glue" them with royal? Do I just push them together while they're still pliable? I tried just wetting each piece with a paintbrush, and ended up with a sticky, sliding mess, so I just put toothpick pieces into head, arms and legs, then stuck them into the body, but is this right? The (blurry) image is in my gallery
Thanks

I use toothpicks while it is still pliable. or you can use dry pasta too.

just took a peak at Curious George and even without colour he is just adorable!!!!...great job and can't wait to see him finished.
I have made a couple of fondant figures lately and what I did was very very lightly brush some water on one of the surfaces I wanted to stick together...for arms and legs to body, I also stuck a toothpick to add some stability...that was for my prototype..for the real thing, I will use dry spaghetti..I will make a hole with a toothpick first and then stick in the spaghetti..it is a lot more kiddy friendly...even though they won't eat the ornaments, you never know.....

I used just fondant with a bit of Gumtex and it was good to work with and it is drying quite nicely...even overnight it dried some and I can pick them up without them falling to pieces...

Anyhow, George looks great and can't wait to see when you are finished!!!

well, here is the finished Curious George. I am extremely disappointed in how he came out; not at all what I envisioned, and I really struggled getting him all stuck together. I like the bananas though icon_razz.gif
Sorry, blurry again

George looks really cute and the bananas are great!!
I use edible markers and/or paint food colour on to do facial features..I think all you might need is a bit of colour on his mouth and eyes..perhaps his nose but he is fine the way he is..I agree, you are too hard on yourself!
His feet have great definition and look just like monkey feet!!!

A character I am working on isn't turning out as I had hoped..my prototype looked better so I feel your pain as well... icon_rolleyes.gif

when you apply the water with a paint brush, if it becomes a sticky mess it is because you are getting it to wet.

Everyone, thank you for all of your help! I've been slow to reply (busy!) I'm not sure if I will try this again, but if I do, I have a lot of suggestions of things to try.
As it turns out, the woman my mom made the cake for absolutely loved it, and her entire office wrote little thank you's on a fax and sent it to me at work. Wow, so many nice people in the world, including all of you.
thanks again.
Sue
