I can't remember how many Tootsie Rolls I used when I made roses...but I can tell you what to do about the drooping (I think!).
You can place the roses on your cake, then just use your fingers to reposition any petals that may have moved or become smooshed. They should stay in shape as long as you're not in a really hot place.

Thanks HollyPJ! Just the person to get help from! It's your roses that I'd like to re-create! Your cake with the ganache and roses is beautiful!
Thanks again!

You're welcome!

You can also put the roses in the fridge to firm them up once you have the petals how you want them.

I made some last week and found that It was easier to make the little insides and then put them in the fridge and did the same with each row of petals as they kept wilting on me lol. Once they were on the cake I lifted the petals to where I wanted them and then just refrigerated the whole thing and it turned out beautiful I dont have any pics of my work cause I dont own a digital camera I tried with my web cam but the pics looke terrible and not very clear. Well maybe santa will bring me one icon_lol.gif lol

Oh I also wanted to say that I use the giant tootsie roll I found it cheaper than the little bags and that I used about 1 giant one to make 2 roses of a good size. I can get 2 giant rolls for $1. at my dollar store so works out good.

In the intructions I have, it says to use 5 mini tootsie rolls. I think that made a pretty big flower.

Here you go...it's a lot like making a fondant rose but without the cutters.

I just make candy clay using the chocolate almond bark... much cheaper than tootsie rolls and tastes great also... plus you do not need to unwrap

I think it is easier to work with also

Good idea, Msmeg. I think I'll use that next time I want to make these roses.

Except, you can always steal all the Tootsie Rolls out of your kids Halloween candy in a few weeks. That makes them free. icon_wink.gif
