Fn Challenge: Candy Castles (Susan O'boyle Jacobson's Day)
Decorating By CoutureCake Updated 2 Nov 2006 , 9:27pm by moydear77
I just got an email from our ICES rep who asked this to be passed along to anyone that may have been missed. Since many of you knew Susan much better than I, I figured I'd post it here.. I can't even begin to describe how radiant Susan looked those last two days as a rather sizable group of us were there to watch her be in her element. Of course, even reading the email I'm already ![]()

here, but..
The Food Network called Phil last week and confirmed the Candy Castles Competition will air on Sunday PM, October 29th. The time had not been decided, however within one to two weeks prior to the 29th that will be advertised on the network.
Bump this up!
I just wanted to Bump this up and tell many of you about a great lady! I have been sent several PMs about Susan and if she was a member. Susan competetd in the Candy Castles Event and won $10,000. A day later she passed away from a heart attack.
Many read the article in American Cake decorating magazine and know this already.
Susan was a mentor and beautiful giving person. I was lucky to see her compete. I was able to place beautiful Gerbera daisies on her winning castle after we found out.
Think of her when they air the show a week from Sunday and see what a great lady she was!

Challenge: Candy Castles
Chocolate bridges over sugar moats, ice cream cone towers rising from cake-filled castles--and that's just a taste of what you'll see when four confectionary architects joust for the Challenge crown and $10,000! But sugar and chocolate aren't stable like steel and stone, so as walls crumble and sugar shatters, the clock becomes the enemy as the competitors race to bring their fairy-tale fortresses to life
Moydear77 --
Thank you for giving folks a brief description of Susan. With over 58000 members of this forum, the people who do not know her, or of her, are definitely in the majority.
I did not know her, but knew of her. From what I heard, she was everything you described her as, and more. A person must be pretty special if a world-wide organization names a scholarship after you.

I am sure they will do a tribute. I saw them taping her castle after I placed flowers on it. They were not sure what to do from what I understand. One time something happened similar to this om HG TV.
It will be fun! She had a huge peanut gallery and I was proud to be of them!
Here is a website that talks about her..

Now that they showed the results at the end, I'm sitting here looking like a blubbering idiot in front of the computer.. ![]()

The other thing is, I think we all were wiping our eyes that afternoon when they said Susan had won because of how excited we were for her.
I think I was shown on there more times than I care to admit (I was in the front row wearing the purply-maroon shirt). But, I think the moment of the night was showing Lynn Lair instead of Phil... WHOOOOPS! ![]()

when they were talking about her spending time with her husband. I can only imagine poor Lynn and Phil watching that moment.
That castle looked even more amazing in person. Susan really did deserve to win with the job that she did.
Oh no!!! I didn't know about that site before... Just when I'm thinking I'll see the screen straight again, I started reading some of that... ![]()

I didn't know any of this until the "in memory of" at the end of the show. I then got on here to see if anything had been posted about it. One thing that was obvious was the support she had from her husband in the audience. You could see in his eyes that he adored her. Thank you for sharing what happened to her. So very sad. ![]()
I'm glad I remembered to watch the show. What a wonderful challenge this was. I felt bad for the guy with the shipping issue. That must have been heartbreaking. It would have been nice to see 4 completed castles. Susan's castle was so child-friendly and fantasy driven. I loved it. I think the way they honored her at the end of the show was perfect.
