Mrs Missey sent me this link some time back.

There are several web site you can look at. I didn't find anything that was a cooked turkey but there are lots of designs to choose from. ABCTeach.com, TheHolidayZone, Familycrafts.about.com are a few. (The most colorful was Familycrafts.) Good Luck.
Okay, can anyone point me in the right direction for instructions for making one of these? I tried to search in the forums - especially for MrsMissy's instructions, but I'm not doing very well. Has anyone made one of these and have any tips? Thanks.
..if I can help, just let me know!![]()
The base cakes I used were:
Two oval cakes (7 3/4x 5 5/8th) - From the Wilton C2 Kit
One 6 in Heart
Picture 1:
I added a little extra batter in the oval pans, so that I would have the rounded top. (How often do we wish for that?) I picked the one that had the most even shape and used that for the top of the bird, and leveled the second oval for the bottom half. I then used a knife to help give it a smoother shape from the top down to the sides.
I took the heart shape and cut out my legs from it. I think it worked pretty well though next time I will round the sides of them a little more. Attach those to the body with icing and toothpicks. I had left off the toothpicks at first but my legs kept sliding and falling away from the cake, so I thought it would help to add them.
Picture 2:
I iced the whole cake white and ended up letting it crust over night, which I found out later was a mistake. It had crusted a little too much so when I went to smooth it some wrinkles were created, which later showed when I painted it. I would suggest letting it crust just enough to be able to smooth it with a slightly textured paper towel.
The next day I did the wings. I used just a coupler to do them then shaped them a little. I think the wings were the least favorite part to do because I had no idea what they should look like. But they worked, because people could guess what it was.
Picture 3:
To color my bird I used regular vanilla mixed with brown paste color and a touch of gold. I used a new, clean artist brush to paint it on. It ended up taking a while to do it since the biggest brush I had on hand was less than a 1/2 inch wide. I also had to do several coats (three or maybe four I think) and let each dry completely before doing the next coat. Im sure you could mix more of the color into the vanilla but I didnt want to get it too dark and doing coats helped with that. It also helped even out areas that might have gotten a thicker coat than another.
(This picture was taken after 2 coats of color.)
The finishing touches were to add the stuffing. I just cut squares from the left over scraps and toasted them in the oven until they were brown, and attached them with icing. There really wasnt much scrap waste at the end of this cake since you use it for the stuffing, and it helps add to the big picture of the cake.
This is not an original design, just my take on it. You can start with many different cake shapes and sizes as well as coloring him in different ways.
(Scroll up for picture of completely cake.)
moydear77 - your turkey is actually gorgeous!! Never thought I'd say that about a turkey
Most of is just carving and I covered the whole thing in fondant. I airbrushed the entire thing! It was made from a 9x13 cake. Let me know if you have any other questions! It was scary real!
