Can anyone tell me how to correctly support the wire when putting into the cake to hold decorative items(flowers, balls, etc...)? Did it one time and all of my flowers moved and broke the fondant. Thanks

Try using flower spikes and filling them with fondant, then stick the spikes into the cake and insert wires into the fondant-filled spike. Does that make sense? Lol, it was a long sentance!

Thanks so much for the reply...but I do have a question! The flower spikes are they the things you put water in to insert flowers? The tube like things?

You can also use different size straws... like the really thin ones some people use for stirring coffee, or regular drinking straws or really really big ones... depending on the project.

I use drinking straws to support pieces on lollipop sticks and coffee stirrers for wire - works great!

So, I would run the wire through the coffee stirrers? Or would I use the coffee stirrer instead of wire? Sorry to be so ignorant on the subject but I just couldn't figure out how everyone does this and then transports the cake.
Thanks!!

I insert straw/coffee stirrer into the cake and put the wired decorations in the straw/stirrer. These are the coffee stirrers that look like little straws - not sticks.

Just wondering what gauge wire you normally use. I'm sure it is somewhat dependant on what you are putting on the wire, but I want to make small snowflakes out of royal iciing and want to put a few on wire to make a spray out of the top of the cake. Have no clue what gauge will hold up the weight of the flake.
