I am going to be using tip #233, I think that is what # it is... the grass/hair tip.... I want to know if there is a way that I can use 2 different colors in it easily, if one is white... can anyone give me any advice on this?
do you mean at the same time?
if so, fill bag 1/2 and 1/2 if you want a blend...
or can use color stripe technique (take paint brush and paint 1, 2, 3 or more stripes of pure gel color on inside of bag and then load w/ white (or other color) icing...give very interesting two-tone effect.
Make icing plugs. Take a small amount of frosting, plop it on a piece of saran wrap, roll it up, twist it up like you would a candy wrapper, do one for each color you want to use, then cut the end off one end of each, slip them into your back next to each other and pipe away, when it runs out pull out the saran wrap and repeat. Makes it a lot easier and less messy when switching out frosting. It also helps make the colors come out more evenly.

learn something new every day...![]()
sounds much easier than using disposable bags.
Yes, I mean at the same time... I want to use a tan color for the most part, with LITTLE white mixed in... If it was the other way around I could do it, but, since it is this way, I don't know how...
freddyfl, I think that I understand what you are saying to do, but, I am not sure... I am one of those people that have to do it to understand more than just read it... if that makes sense... I know, this isn't the place for that, but, I have always been a "learn by doing" person, not a "learn by reading" person.
Thank you, I will definatly try it and see what happens for me!
if I ever get around to it I will take pictures while doing it and maybe make a tutorial for the site. Our wilton instructor taught us to do this and we all loved the technique. Don't use more than a 1/2 a cup for each plug, they will be way to big! If you want to have more than one color I would make very small plugs. Like a 1/4 or so of a cup. I can try to spell it out more clearly.......it is really simple. Sometimes simple things are harder to explain (has anyone else ever noticed that?)
1) take a sheet of plastic wrap, a decent rectangle size.
2) Take your frosting and blob it on the plastic wrap
3)roll the frosting up in the plastic like you would a hotdog. Sort of making the frosting the shape of a sausage or hot dog as you go.
4)once rolled, grab the edges of the plastic and twist them tight (like with a peppermint or salt water taffy)
5) cut one twisted end off when ready to ice your cake
6) place cut end tip side down into the icing bag
7) squeeze until gone =-), pull out empty plastic wrap, and repeat process
Does that make more sense?
Okay, TOTALLY. Thank you! I even asked my DH to come over to the PC and read it to see if he could explain it to me, said he understood it, then when I asked him to tell me what you meant, since he understood it, he just looked and me and said, "can you just have her call you?" LOL.. isn't he cute
Thank you so much! I will try that...
one more question... if I want more tan and less white, can I do smaller bags and have, say 3 tan and one white in the middle or do you think that wouldn't work so well?
edited cause I just can't spell tonight!! ![]()
I think that would work fine. Or maybe just two tan and one white in the middle would work. You can make these pencil thin if you want to. The thinner they are the more you could essentially fit in, but I am thinking that two tan with a moderate amount of icing and one white with less icing in it would work as well. I am glad that my second post helped more.
You are awesome! Thank you again! I really appreciate it. Now time to go and do my cake... well, if I could pull myself away from this computer...
hey freddyfl, where is bremerton? Can't be all to far away from me here in Oregon...
I am in Southern Oregon, Medford, but, Seattle is only about 7 hours or so from here from what I am told...
