i'm practising my gumpaste flowers. i seem to be doing ok, can do roses great my pulled flowers are ok and improving but i CANNOT do carnations. anyone know if there are any vidio tutorials. i've followed loads of books tried lots of different ways but i cant get it to stay on the wire when i hang it upside down to dry and to be honest the flower itself leaves a lot to be desired. this is a popular flower where i live and i really need to be able to do one.

For starters, instead of rolling out only 4 rounds of gumpaste to make the carnation I use 7 or 8 so it looks nice and full like a carnation should. I have a pink fondant cake in my photos with a pile of gumpaste carnations on top of it so you can see how tight they are made. Are you having trouble getting the edges ruffled properly?
Also, instead of turning the flower upside down to dry I use little rolled up pieces of paper towel to keep the petals in place until it is dry.
Don't give up on them even though they seem to be a bit challenging at first. Keep trying and you will soon get them down. If you can do the roses you can do the carnations.
