icon_biggrin.gif OK Lustre DUst is edible, it comes in either shiny or non shiny.
I use them all the time. YOu can make a paint out of them by mixing
either, Vodka or Almond Extract with it. One bottle or container goes a
loooong way. Or you can just use them to dust your flower (GUm paste) petals by using a small brush. The Pearl and Gold ones are my favorite.
Look in my photos and you will see what I mean.

Hope this helps.

WOW, Eve - your cakes are fabulous. Fondant intimidates me icon_confused.gif

Can you use the lustre dust on buttercream or royal icing, too?

Thanks again.

icon_smile.gif Thank you......
you can use it on Royal Icing ones it has set and dried up.
I have never used it on buttercream. I don't think it would work since buttercream is somewhat sticky, it won't glide.
don't get intimidated by Fondant. It is very easy to handle. No mess , no fuzz. Play with it.. You can come up with so many different shapes with them, flowers, bows, ribbons, lace, characters etc.... try it..

At the cake supply place that I get my "dust" from they told me that Luster dust has a shimmer to it and Petal dust is more of a flat color.
Also, I made a cake a few weeks ago for a graduation...I put tip 12 grey dots along the edge in buttercream...let them set a bit and then I dusted them with shimmery silver luster dust to make them look like silver. So yes you can use it on buttercream but make sure it's crusted over and you have a very delicate hand.

Luster dust - has a shiny, metallic look when dry
Petal dust - has a matte look when dry
Pearl dust - has a pearl-like luster when dry
sparkle dust - is very shiny and sparkly when dry

Eve - you're right, I should at least get some fondant to play with.
