Well I THOUGHT they were dry enough to put some wax paper over for the night - I just feel better if things are covered (cat). BUT when I woke up this morning a few had melded with the wax paper.
They're still damp but I'm at work until tonight and think they will probably be past repair - any ideas??? I have to have these done by Wednesday and I still have to paint them. (I made them all white and will paint luster dust on them.)
What kind of icing is on them? Can you scrape it off and start again? It sounds like you'll have a clumpy mess if you add more icing.
Duh, I forgot to add that they are royal - outlined with thinned icing flooded inside.
I think the cookies would break if I scraped the icing off....?
LOL... sorry To hear that happened to you. It might be easier to lock the cat away from the cookies the next time. I wanted to get a cat but I Would be so worried about it getting in to my baked goods at night.

I have a cat, too...so I either put my cookies on cookie sheets in the oven or in big cake boxes with the lid closed. If you have a lot of cookies you can stack the boxes. When I have a lot of cookies I have boxes stacked all over the house since you can only put one layer per box with them wet.

Don't seperate the layers with wax paper either, use parchment. Wax paper sticks to royal icing...but parchment releases.
(I found that out the REALLY hard way when I piped 200 snowflakes onto wax paper for a wedding cake...and the next day they were not even close to being dry!!)
OK I know this sounds wacky but I have dried my royal icing in the oven. It was out of desperation really. I was out of meringue powder and out of time and I needed to make a fence. So I made it out of egg whites. Hmmm (my brain starts talking to me) Salmonella cannot survive beyond 185 F or so. And some added lime juice should produce an unfavorable environment for Salmonella. So I cranked my oven to 200 and stuck my icing in there. What would have taken me over 24 hours to dry was dried in under 30 minutes. LOL....
I have since tried this with egg whites. Egg whites in a box and meringue powder versions of royal icing.

I also have dried mine in the oven when I needed them in a hurry. I didn't turn my oven on, I just turned on the light and it worked really well.
