Hi everyone! Only one cake this week and it's not due till Sunday so it's only crumbcoated right now. Real work will happen tomorrow. I'll try to post it then. It is my last cake of the year and it's not even a "pro" cake. It's my mom's birthday cake and, I hope, it will look like a Minion. She loves the things and those movies so I'm hoping she will love this too. There is just four of us so it's a 4 inch stacked cake. So teeny but, as some of you know, that can make it even harder. I'm hoping that's not the case! LOL!

Next Friday begins the Holidays for us and we are going out of town. I will start off Cake Club before I leave and check in again on Saturday morning. The following Friday we'll take off and pick things back up in the New Year!

Hope to see some great cakes this week! Also...if you do other holiday items please share with me? PM me or whatever but I'd love to see what you come up with!

Hi Cat,

Hope you had a great week! It is 11:50pm here in Nashville, Tennessee, and I am watching Food Network "Challenge" on DVR, getting ideas.

Well, here's a cake I made for Christmas 2013, but I wanted to point out that I made it in a toaster oven while on vacation, and used a silicone potholder with a neat design as an impression mat.

Christmas Poinsettia Cake 2013

Even when I'm not at home, I like to challenge myself by making cakes in hotel rooms. So there's a lesson I was raised on, "Where there's a will, there's a way!"

AHappy birthday to your mom Cat! Can't wait to see you Minion cake! Betcha it'll be awesome :)

Gold Star Mom, that is an awesome cake considering it was made in a hotel room! As per the Girl Scout motto (back in the Philippines) - a girl scout is always ready! Great job!

I made two cakes:

Strawberry Shortcake Cake for my friend's daughter's 1st birthday. Love this cute design!

3D Lego cake for my nephew's 6th birthday. This was actually one of the easiest cakes i've ever made and it looks cool too!

gold star mom, I love your design on that cake!! Awesome looking. Cat, can't wait to see your mom's cake. Mattyeatscake, I love both of your cakes. I especially love the lego cake. Great job everyone. No cakes for me. Just making some pumpkin pies. I always look forwards to seeing all the cakes for the week.

@Gold Star Mom I am super impressed that you were able to make such a gorgeous cake under those conditions!

@mattyeatscakes My younger daughter, when she was little, would have simply adored your Strawberry Shortcake. That's adorable. But her 3 year old son would go crazy over the Lego cake! He's SO into them right now. Great work!

We are, once again, up at dawn for karate. Today is his Red Tip test that will allow him to continue to his Black Belt test next week. Say prayers, cross fingers, whatever...that he gets it this first time!

AGold Star Mom love the Christmas cake. Where there is a will there is a way. My dad use to say.

Mattyeatscake love both of yours especially the Legos.

Cat like everyone else can't wait to see the minion cake. I know it will be awesome.

I did the pink zebra one last weekend and the cookie cake and plus some plain cupcakes for my nieces baby shower.

So today didn't go as hoped. There are 4 segments to the testing and he failed one of them. Actually, one instructor failed him for reasons that seem really petty so he's really having issues with it. The remarks on his sheet say things like "belt uneven" and "not intense enough". There were a couple of form remarks about foot placement but when his regular instructor had him demonstrate it he said Jack was doing it right.  What is really heartbreaking is that he was SO on his game. He was SO sharp and SO intense. He really DID give it his all and to fail after that has really shaken his self esteem. The good news is that his regular instructor says that some instructors are super perfectionists and once you know what they are expecting it makes it easy to fix. So he's got class on Monday and Tuesday and then his regular instructor will retest him on Wednesday. If he passes then he goes onto the Black Belt test on Saturday. If he doesn't then I'm going to leave it up to him whether to continue or not. Hard to keep at something when you give it your absolute best and still fail. SOoooo when it came to caking today it was an uphill battle since I had all of these negative emotions going on inside of me. But I finally got going and here's my Mom's little Minion:

She's going to love him. He's about 7 inches tall. 4 inch cakes. Only needs to feed 6 so it will be just enough. As usual, I have NO idea how I'm going to cut it! LOL! I'll make it up as I go!

Hope everyone else is having a better weekend!

The boy is doing better tonight and, yes, we are praying all turns out and his hard work rewarded this upcoming week.

Hi all, I'm a bit late as yesterday (Saturday) was my son's birthday party and I was busy with his cake. He is a huge fan of any type of animal (he wants to become an animal expert when he's grown up).

I brought him chameleon cupcakes to school to celebrate with his classmates since his actual birthday was on Friday.

Chameleon cupcakes

We live right at the ocean, so we have lots of the animals which were on his birthday cake in close reach, like the green mamba, the chameleon, birds and fish...

Wildlife themed cake with lake, waterfall and river, a chimpanzee sitting in a rkt baobab tree eating a banana, a chameleon, a bird, a green mamba, a fish, reed and grass with flowers and butterflies, rocks and a fish.

My boys are doing Teakwondo too, Cat. Okay, on another level since they are young, but I know it's lots of pressure on them doing competitions... Hope it'll work out next time!

Love your little minion, am planning on making minion cupcakes for my younger son's 3rd birthday. We all love them...beebo beebo...gelatoooo LOL

Gold star mom, that is impressive and I actually have no words. I'm freaking out sometimes making stuff in my own kitchen, but in a hotel room?!? No way, you are crazy 8O

Mattyeatscakes, I looove the cakes. Such beautifull bright colours and very clean work. Would love to produce cakes like that one day...

Marian64, I like the cute babies in the peas. That is too cute!!!

I wasn't too busy as today (sunday) is the second day of the holidays - yeah - and i got tons of stuff to organize (fundraising party on friday is next).

But I did a Dora the explorer birthday cake (matching the cupcakes I posted last time)

Dora the Explorer cake

...some spiderman cupcakes...

Spiderman cupcakes

...and my personal favorite a traditional Swiss roll, filled with homemade spiced plum and port jam and fresh whipped cream - yummy...!

Here's some I've done recently:

The shoe cake was for an adoption shower of a two year old.

A smart phone for an 11 year old's birthday. His mom told me he was born on the 7th at 7:07!

AThanks for all the lovely words everyone! I didn't have a lego mold so i had to cut each lego by hand. Lol. Took a while!

I don't know how to attach a person's name to my comment (eg. @julia1812). It doesn't work for me, or maybe because i am using my phone?

Anyway, awesome cakes!!! Cat, the Minion cake is cute! Julia, those cupcakes are very detailed, esp the cameleons! And pastrylady, your iphone cake is spot on! You hand cut all the details? Wow! Marian, that cookie cake looks so cute, i'd rather have a cookie than a cake! Lol :)

Wow, guys! I come back to all this great stuff! It's all just amazing!

@julia1812 you live where all of those great animals live? I'm SOOOOO jealous! Love your little chameleons...they are awesome! Great detail in that cake too!

Thanks for the kind words for my son. Unfortunately this is the top goal in Kenpo Karate. Since the issues are not getting the moves right but more of an 'attitude' I'm not sure how far this is going to go. Most teenagers have an attitude, a "swagger" to them...kind of a "I'm gonna kick your butt" attitude. Jack just doesn't have that. I think, no matter how this week ends up, this is going to be end of the road for karate for him. We are moving soon anyways and he wants to focus on his baseball before he gets to high school next year so I think we'll spend our time and money on that. I'd love for him to be able to get his black belt before we move on but either way we'll move on after this week.

@Pastrybaglady Love your little shoes..especially the little line around the sole! Truly that added detail that goes a LONG way. Your iphone is awesome!

@mattyeatscakes not sure why the "tagging" doesn't work for you but you may be right, it may be because it's from your phone. Unfortunately it's the only way I know people actually get the notice that something has happened here and to come back again. The program here "says" it will notify you with every post but it really only hits about every 5 posts for me...so I miss a lot if I don't just randomly come back here. So we'll just keep tagging you and dragging you back so you can see what you missed! LOL!

Hope everyone has a great week..see you back here Friday!

AThanks putting the babies in the pea pods was a last minute idea they looked really plain just stuck on the cookie.

Julia1812 I love your cakes but the chameleon cupcakes are so cute did you have a mold or do them individually? The Swiss roll looks yummy.

Pastrybaglady the shoes for the adoption cake look real. The iPhone icons are perfect.

Always love looking at all the cakes.

@mattyeatscakes: On my phone it never works! Will see in a sec if it does with my computer ;)

@catlharper: I remember from your previous posts that he worked very hard for his karate test (sorry, not teakwondo! got confused). But let me tell you something: My boys are still young (2 and 5) and I don't know how they develope in their "teakwondo career", but I've done Teakwondo (not karate, lol) for many year on competition level and got some kicks in my butt (literally, LOL) from opponents and teachers. Now, looking back, I think it all made me stronger! They didn't just teach us how to kick someone k.o. but also how to diszipline yourself - in a good way. While some friends spent their free time partying and drinking or worse, I knew I couldn't. They would have kicked me out from the club immediately. Plus 10 hrs of weekly training and spending the weekend on tournaments didn't give me much time to get distracted either, LOL.

Meditation, a healthy diet and a lot of other things (I wasn't too keen on at the time), showed to be from great value for me later in life. So, even if he "throws the towel" for now, don't be disappointed! He already learned much, I'm sure!

And yes, we currently live where all these creatures are found (snakes in the bathroom - yikes!), which is in Kenya <3 My boys were born here and developed a strong faszination for any living creature around. Sometimes a bit scary... :/
