I've just made my first tiered cake, covered in fondant and sugar flowers and realised I've no idea how/if to cover it to protect from bugs/dust etc! It's so tall my usual 'net' covers for cakes don't fit.
How does everyone protect their cake once its stacked? I figured I had to stack it as I wouldn't be able to attach the sugar flowers correctly until it was assembled. It's only for 2 days time.
and while you're pondering that question: i have the same for buttercream swirled cupcakes! My cupcake caddy isn't tall enough to allow for the high swirls I've made! Could I leave them out uncovered overnight?
I'm not sure about a stacked cake, as I've never had one sit for 2 days but my guess would be taking the box you're going to pack it in and putting it upside down over the cake? For tall cupcakes overnight I just open a carrier bag, roll the edge down a few times so it makes a general dome shape, and sit it over however many cupcakes will fit (usually around 6-8 for me). The rolled sides make the bag hold itself up, and the cupcakes stay fresh underneath. And dust free :)
AI keep my cakes and cupcakes in the oven. Just make sure it's cold and nobody switches it on accidentally, lol! Since I don't have orders every day it's fine for me...
