AI just feel so alone in this decorating and baking world. I need a friend to once in a while have lunch with, maybe even talk about things other than cake. I know these aren't the "personals", but I don't know where else to post! I'm in Virginia Beach, Va. I just get so stressed and close to the breaking point sometimes; I think it's because I'm not close to anyone who understands.

We've all been there. Life can really stink sometimes. CC is a good starting place to post. I've made some wonderful friends here, people who do understand the difficulties of running a food business. If you want specific help on this subject, please speak up.

I LOVE having a local cake "buddy" - someone I can call and complain to or bounce questions/ideas off of. We share stencils and tools, and have even agreed to be each other's backup in case of some horrible emergency. We met at a mini bridal show and just hit it off, but there's always places to meet people. ICES has already been mentioned, but do you have any local cake clubs? If you have any supply shops in town, check with them. And you might even think about contacting another local baker you like - they may be looking for a cake buddy too.
Worst case, just keep coming back here - there's plenty of friendship to go around. There's always someone here!
AStart a "cake club" on Facebook, and post links to it on local pages for your town, if the pages allow it. Bet you'll find some new friends real fast! I started a group a few years back, and now there are about 7 of us that are real live friends. We meet up for coffee, go to each.other's kiddos parties, chat every day online, run referrals back and forth, gossip about the latest weird request and who to watch out for, etc etc. It's great to have local decorators for friends. Be prepared though, some will not want anything to do with you, and don't sweat it. Some just can't get past the "competition" factor and don't believe you can truly be friends with people in the same industry. Shame.

Check at Party Cakes N Things in Virginia Beach. Julene is really nice, and she's active in the Virginia ICES chapter. They do a lot of classes and they probably know about local get-togethers or cake clubs. http://www.partycakesnthings.com/index.php
