Pancake cake - just checking....

Is it as quick and easy as I'm hoping it is, to make a cake that looks like a stack of pancakes?

I've baked a 6" chocolate orange cake...

I plan to tort and fill with choc buttercream and the use vanilla buttercream around the side of the cake.

Roll creamy coloured sugarpaste (fondant) into long sausages, not toooo thick and then attach around the side of the cake, painting the top, but not the edge a slightly darker colour (golden/brown).

Repeat until you get to the top of the cake, and then attach a circle, around the same thickness as the sausages that have previously been used, to the top and paint the top the golden/brown colour all over the top.

Decorate with sugarpaste (fondant) pats of butter or sugarpaste strawberries, etc....

Thanks

I did this one recently, but I did each pancake as a separate piece of the torted cake. Then I iced it with tan icing and put some fondant on the edges that showed and caramelized them with a blowtorch. The syrup is cooked sugar. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151625842163671&set=pb.92855088670.-2207520000.1386202792.&type=3&theater

I also made one recently and just posted how I made a knife, fork, plate, and syrup pourer to go with it:

Yes, it's really easy...

OMG!  Wow!!!!!

BOTH those cakes are PHENOMENAL!!!!

I don't think mine will be on a par with those....  unfortunately so very pushed for time (and, to my shame - as it's for my son - I don't feel the same pressure as if it were for a customer).

Thank you both for your replies...  definitely gives me something to work towards....

Guys - just wanted to say the cake is finished!!!

Thanks so much!

I'm just waiting to hear whether the glaze I wanted to use to represent the syrup is OK for the of the boys coming, as he has allergies.

But will photograph later.

It IS rushed and had it been for a customer, I'd have taken more time and done a better job.  BUT in saying that I'm thrilled with it!  I used my airbrush to colour the top pancake (just brushed colour on the sausaged of paste) but this way there's no brush strokes and looks soooo good!

Thank you again!

Here we go...  I haven't edited properly yet - I'll blacken the background more, sort out if I need to change lighting.

But I was so excited, I wanted to show you.

One more question...  white ribbon around the cake drum to match the 'plate' or blue to match the name?

Eeek...  I can't believe how easy it was.  I can't believe I haven't started my cake ORDER yet.  I need to go out and buy a new scalpel for that as I've lost mine!!!!!!  SLEEP TONIGHT?  No, I don't think so!

Great job! I say go for white ribbon, just because I usually use the same colour, or at least similar, as the sugarpaste on the drum.

Wow...it's wonderful!

It looks SO realistic!!!

I really love the airbrushed top...what a difference that makes!

PS...definitely white ribbon :)

If I hadn't had to get my butt into gear and START decorating a cake for collection tomorrow, I'd have had a go at doing some bacon - that would have made it PERFECT for him, LOL!

But he loved it!
