Got a question :

A couple of times now, I have received tips for the cakes/cupcakes I have done for people when they come to pick up their cake.

I'm not sure I really feel comfortable with it.  My reason being, what if the person ends up not liking the cake when it is served?  Or what if the person the cake is intended for, doesn't like the look of the cake. Because, then I think, the person who paid, will think," I never should have tipped her"...

It is a very generous offer for people to tip, but I'm not sure how to accept it, for the above reasons...Am I over-reacting?  What if you don't get a response at all from the person on how the cake was???  Am I to assume they thought the cake was awful, too small, too big, too dry?

Has anyone else ever been tipped?  And how do you handle it?

I'm really curious to see what people think.

thanks.

when i am tipped i just say thank you very much and go on --

i never expect nor desire feed back -- the only exception is when unless i do something for an occasion where my kids/husband are in attendance -- then they tell me how it went -- otherwise 'no news is good news' --

i know the products that go out the door are tried & true -- no surprises kwim

Sometimes I get tips for my cakes and while not expected, I really appreciate them.

I don't expect feedback on my cakes and agree with K8 that no news is good news, however it does make me feel good for someone to let me know they enjoyed my cake.

I try all my new cakes on family or friends.  These gifted cakes come with the agreement that they will provide honest feedback.

I got a tip yesterday just for delivering. I always accept and I am pleased to receive. If a client doesn't like the cake I don't think it's the tip that is going to matter much.

Indeed. Compared to the total cost, it's just the tip of the iceberg. :D

Thank you everyone for your responses!  It makes me feel better...and I guess feedback isn't necessary...

Thank you all!
