I am a tad confused about cake serving sizes. I have looked at so many different charts and they all say something else. What size recatangle pan should I use to get at least 20 servings out of a 4 inch high cake?
TIA
A 7x11x4 will give you 25 party servings [12 square inches of cake] or 38 wedding servings [8 square inches of cake].
I don't know of a smaller, standard rectangular pan.
A 9x13x4 makes 40 party servings and 58 wedding servings.
If it's for a client, they get what they pay for--so a 7x11x4.
If it's for family, they get the 9x13--because they're family and like leftovers.
AIf you have an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you can download the SheetCaker app for free. You just enter the servings you need and it will tell you what size cakes that you can bake to achieve that number of servings. It also has cutting guides for each cake that you can print or email to give to your client.
**disclaimer** My husband is the developer but I do think its awesome! :)

jenbug your husbands app is a good idea.
Thanks! When he started app development I told him that we needed tools to make things easier and save time. When he asked what decorators complain about, I told him EVERYTHING!! haha! But seriously, I found serving charts to be tedious to add up different combos and the lack of serving sizes and cutting guides for some pan sizes is just hard to find. This just makes it easier to quickly give clients different options and in a very professional presentation. He works very hard on the apps and he will appreciate your compliment!
