Hi all,

I'm usually good with creative ideas........but this theme has me stumped!! I have a client who wants a themed sweet table and the theme of the party is 'wishing lanterns'.

So it's a theater/play house that's having their annual gala and they'll have strung lanterns through out the theater stage above where the guests will be seated for dining. I'm having a hard time visualizing how I can incorporate that theme into my sweet table.

The first thing that comes to my mind is candles glowing on the sweet table. But than I become worried about the fire hazards of that, so that idea is out. I've also thought about sparklers, again flammable..........so that's a no go. I'd love to drape lights above the table, but really I can't... given their unbelievably high ceiling and I'm not a set designer....I need to bring my ideas down into decorating the pastries.

I've done a bunch of searches online but I can't find a visual that conveys this theme.

HELP, please!! Any ideas are welcome!

AThere are several types of battery operated lights that you could get. The tea light ones actually flicker....you could disguise them somehow......

You don't need to do candles.  Do mini LED lights or fairy berries

They look great and add a nice glow.

How about not worrying about the desserts and make one nice table centerpiece that unifies the theme.

Did they pick a color scheme for their lanterns?  That's another way to approach a tie in

First, they've never had a nice sweets table so it's something the director is trying to get passed through committee. So based on my portfolio on my website, she's trying to get them to go for something like I've done. Their usual sweets table consists of donations from multiple vendors, that they set on their own trays. So this would be a big step if she can get it passed. Plus they'd be paying me, it won't be a donation like the past.....so I need to wow them!

The color theme is eggplant purple and burnt orange.......I don't know what color the table cloth will be ........but, neither color works for my pastries garnishes. They do have floral centerpieces, I've got no idea what those will look like and I won't see them in advance. So it wouldn't be right for me to make a lantern centerpiece because that might piss off the florist (whom is a BIG donator).

I started day dreaming about using all kinds of gold dusted chocolate garnishes and putting every pastry into a gold foil liner and maybe sprinkling gold dust over things. The idea being the sparkle of light off the gold (and it works with their color scheme)............but is that too far of a stretch?

I think if  you look up Hot Air baloon sweets table you will get a lot of ideas.  Next you have to change the balloon look to a wishing balloon, as well as darken the sky to dark eggplant and add some gold.stars.  Look up hot air balloon cakes, cupcakes etc.
