I have finally decided to open a small business doing cakes.  We are building a small commercial kitchen in our new house to do it out of while my kids are in school or bed.  Only problem is, I am not the best at being creative with words and am having a heck of a time coming up with a business name.

I am best at creating simple streamlined uncomplicated cakes.  I don't like doing fancy over the top designs.

Since my commercial kitchen is in my home I was thinking something with "Cakehouse" or "Bakehouse".

Any brilliant ideas?  I'm stumped.

I just came up with my business name the other night. I plan to specialize in cakes both wedding and custom, but I also want to do cake-pops, brownies, cupcakes and other treats. I wanted a whimsical, feel and my brother brought me home a delicious chocolate shake and I said this is scrumdidlyumtious! and there my name was born... So Scumdidlyumtious Treats was born.

That's very cute, but as a consumer, I would have no idea how to spell that, in turn, making it impossible to find you, your website, your Facebook, your contact information, etc. Sorry icon_redface.gif A business name should be easy to say and spell. Word of mouth is the best advertising, and if people can't say it or type it into Google, you'll be invisible.

i love the inspiration behind the name, but in this web and electronic based world, you are going to be invisible with that intricate spelling. If that word really speaks to you, perhaps use it as a tag line and not part of your business name or web address.

AI believe there should be a p in it too - scrumdiddlyumptious. As its based on the word scrumptious and all.

Oh lordy, ask me how many interesting versions of my business name I find in my website stats for Google searches. Cuture. Culture. Cootor. Kootur. Cuter. Yeah. Thankfully they get routed to the right place.

Yea, too hard for other people to know how to spell it as you didn't spell it the same way each time.

Cooter Cakes... now that would be an easy name to remember!

As someone who went down the 'scrum' road, I don't recommend it. It's much easier now, but I used to have people always telling me they had tried to find my name but couldn't get the spelling right, or got it confused with another scrum-something-or-other.

I have a well established client base and all that fun stuff now, but starting out man did I wish I had gone with 'Generic name cakes'.

ASeriously, the best thing you can do is put the name of your city in your business name somehow. That with the word cake pretty much guarantees you top placement in search results. I did that, but I know I'm screwed if I ever move. Which, I am planning on in the nearish future.

Thank you all for your advice.  I have decided to change the name, after I couldn't remember if I spelled it correctly, I knew potential clients wouldn't be able to either. I decided on The Little Cake Shop. There is no other bakery near me with the name or anything similar.

Hello, Just a little idea of how I came up with my small home cake business......

I took all 4 of my children 1st letter of their names from the oldest to the youngest....

and named my business

D.J.D.S CAKES!

It may not be all that or maybe not many will approve of it!

BUT ITS PERSONAL AND VERY TOUCHING TO ME!!!!! AFTER ALL MY CHILDREN

ARE MY DAILY MOTIVATION!

Hope this helped a little :-)
