AOkay so I am new at all this and need help with how much I should be charging for my cakes.. So the cake I just made cost about $50 in ingredients it was a 2 tier round cake 8 in/ 3in and 6in/ 3 in.. in fondant. It took me 11 hours to make this cake, i made alot of things out of gumpaste that was alot of my time, but it turned out beautiful :)... so the question is what would you be charging a cake like this?
There is a matrix under the things to read before posting when you look at cake decorating topic. I would link it but i'm not that computer savvy yet..lol.. hope that helps
Its usually $4.50 per slice or more. Depends on your area bakers and clients and details.
jamie
You also really need to review the pricing in your area. It is rude to undercut your area businesses.
AYour right the cost is high, I am just starting out so there was some things I didn't have so I really can't count them.. and the only bakery in my area is City Market so I really don't have any bakerys I can check out..

Okay so I am new at all this and need help with how much I should be charging for my cakes.. So the cake I just made cost about $35 in ingredients it was a 2 tier round cake 8 in/ 3in and 6in/ 3 in.. in fondant. I don't really have a figure for you, you should check out the replies about figuring your costs that other people have given you above. I have a $200 minimum order, and that's for a smaller cake than you are asking about. But that's not helpful for you, so I refer again to the links people have given you above.
AAZcouture thank you! What do honestly think about my cake and what do you think its worth? I know the price depends on your area and all that but I just kind of want a ball park range of it.. I'm confused lol
AI suppose your ballpark range would be somewhere between $1.50 a serving (the lowest I have ever seen) and $15.00 a serving (the highest I have seen as of yet). It is all very geographically driven. Your skill is important too, but the market tells you what your prices would generally be. Look at bakeries in your area and see what they charge per serving for a fondant cake and that will give you an idea. It seems like the meat of the curve is between $4.50 and $7.00 per serving for a fondant cake in my area.
I think it is a very nice cake, especially given it's only your second fondant cake.
Well, since you spent $50.00 in ingredients, start there. It took you 11 hours to make but it's only your second cake. Someone who has been making cakes for a long time might take less time to do this cake and therefore, you should not charge for 11 hours of work. My cakes take longer to make for the same reason, so I don't charge an hourly rate. I simply charge what I feel will make me a profit and cover my ingredients. I would say $100 for that cake.
