What items do you use that were not in the baking section. I would like to see the things people use so I know I am not the only strange one because I know you are all STRANGE !!!!!
I use lazy susans instead of cake turntables, paint rollers, clothes hangers to hang my flowers on (not very good yet)
ok your turn
AI used a lazy Susan when I first started. Love my new fancy turntable.
Hardware store is great. I find scrapers in the paint & sparkle section.
I use a seam measurer for stacking & a level.
I use a scraper, level, ceramic tiles for settleing, a "pasta" roller that is meant for clay, plastic embossers for card and scrapbooking paper (I use on fondant/gumpaste) and an exacto knife.

I was reading about the ceramic tiles for the bulge. I think I might try that.
I won't settle a cake w/o them anymore and haven't had a case of the bulge since - well that and moving to magic line pans.
APaint scrapers, pruning shears, PVC pipe. Oh, and a blow torch. Nothing really inventive.
AOnce in a while, I roll dough (puff, fondant, whatever), but mostly for modeling. I used paper towel rolls to mold castle turrets once too.
Pieces of lace to make molds.
I have some Norwegian silverware with fancy handles that I've used to make molds.
Polymer clay tools and molds.
Metal rolling mill impression sheets.
Carpenter's square.
Rubber stamps.
Craft scissors (scallop, zig-zag, torn-edge).
Drywall cutter for circles of foam core.
Pearl tweezers to pick up dragees.
Flat bed sheet to put on the kitchen floor to catch drips, powdered sugar, dropped spoons and knives, etc.
Sewing tools.
hemostats--for baby's breath
sandpaper
electric sander
hacksaw
miter saw
baby lights
stencil cutter
foam cutter
circle cutter
edible ink printer
most of that stuff is for making stands and boards and dummies --prolly not what you meant but i wanna play and i can't think of anything ;)
Test tubes. I get them free from work (sterilized) so they are cheaper, for me, than flower picks/spikes and I like them better.
This is one of my favorite stores to troll for decorating tools, such as the I [heart] You toast stamper.

(and if you cut yourself on your Agbay, Archie McPhee has the Jane Austen/Abe Lincoln/Bacon bandages).
Sorry for the duplicate post. CC won't let me delete the one without the link.

Such a great idea
My husband me a cake leveler from scraps of PVC and steel wire. It cost nothing and works great.
Plastic syringes with the tops cut off also work well as flower picks.
Egg cartons and apple trays (the cardboard sort that the apples are on at the supermarket and greengrocers) for shaping flowers.
Solid polystyrene packing inserts from boxed appliances etc for standing flowers on wires in to dry.
I use random pieces of toys and other things around the house as cutters for fondant.
For rolling out fondant, I use my glasstop stove because I have tiled countertops which frustrates me. Or I use a large smooth book with wax paper on top of it.
Nothing really crazy, but I'm also new to all of this, so I'm sure i'll be inventing more ways to substitute for items that I don't have!
I cut up a large piece of styrofoam packing from my husband's new tv, glued and toothpicked the pieces together and made a cupcake stand.
