You know those little squirt bottle that you can get in the Wilton aisle? My Wilton Instructor pointed out that those are really convenient to add small amounts of water to your icing recipes, which is very true!

Well, just as I was about to measure out some into my icing this past weekend, I noticed that it was spoiled by some yucky black wispy stuff. icon_eek.gificon_eek.gificon_eek.gif

Good thing that I noticed it BEFORE I put it in and even better that I noticed it AT ALL. I don't know what that stuff is, but I've seen it before like in iced tea that was left out. I threw the bottle away, its totally not worth the risk. Now I'm wondering if it was there for the cake I made (for family members) two weeks before that. Nobody got ill or anything but still that's really gross!!!

All I could think of was to warn my cake friends here on CC. If you use these bottles, be sure to wash them out regularly or get rid of them.

Going to go hide now...

It's probably mold/mildew. I keep a spray bottle of water for my ironing because I don't like using starch. I have noticed that some places I've lived, mildew grows in the bottle-it would even clog the bottle. Some places it just doesn't happen.

My suggestion would just be to empty and refill it once a week or so.

My kids' bath toys, the ones that squirt, will get this. It is disgusting, but if you try REALLY hard to squeeze it all out in between uses, it's usually OK.

I now try to not get those type of toys...too gross.

Soak these things in a little bleach and then rinse well. Some places are really worse for mildew. Haha, bath toys, that brings back fond memories, of the yucky black mildew, ewwwh!
