I am having less than 100, sometimes less than 50 views on my cakes, and its really disappointing! Especially for the last few cakes I have done because I thought they were pretty good! Certainly not the best, or close to it, but really good for me icon_biggrin.gif How come I don't have many views on these cakes? Is there a trick to posting that will get maximum views?

I'm in the same boat but I figure eventually someone will comment (good/bad) and that's fine. I'm proud of my work and the in person comments are worth their weight in gold. <3

No trick, mine are the same way icon_smile.gif I made a wedding dress cake that I absolutely loved, and it wasn't really seen... I don't think there's a trick to uploading, but I do think the level of talent on here is getting better and better, and it takes something really unique to get noticed icon_smile.gif I peeked at your gallery, and you are SUPER talented! I love your birthday cake!

I have impaired vision, and my eyes tire easily. The photos are so small, that I just pick the ones that I can see most clearly to view larger.

True that all the work is beautiful! There's just so much to see! icon_smile.gif

I posted here a week or so ago about having problems with viewing the most saved cakes and most recent cakes. There are no arrows on my screen to click to advance to the next set of pictures. I know that there should be arrows there, so I put my cursor there and am able to click even though there is nothing there. However after that, the pictures start scrolling frontwards and backwards and there are pics missing too. Then I'll see the same panel of pics over and over again. So I finally gave up. I don't look at them anymore as much as I loved looking at everyone's cakes...it's just too frustrating now! I'd hoped that it was a technical thing and that all these new and exciting things that were supposed to be added or fixed on the site would include that...but obviously not. thumbsdown.gif So until then, I just read the forums occasionally and I won't upload any new pics of my cakes either. icon_sad.gif

One trick is under the title in the tag box include everything that you can think of. For example if I post Valentine cookies I list Valentine, heart, cookie, fondant, glitter, red, white, love, stencil....get the idea. I think a lot of people search for specific items and the more tags that you give your cakes or cookies the bigger the chance that they will be seen. HTH

Lori123456 and Lili5768...thank you very much! I had just recently switched my browser from Internet Explorer to Google Chrome. I just went into CC on IE and yup the arrows are there and the scrolling is perfect! I had originally changed because of issues of CC freezing on IE and my daughter said to switch to Chrome and everything else works beautifully on all other sites so I just thought that the technical issues that CC had been having weren't corrected yet! Sorry CC... icon_redface.gif, my apologies but I wonder how many others are having the same issues and don't know that it could just be their browser causing them?

Well, now I'm ready to look at all the new pictures of cakes I've been missing!!!

Thanks again fellow CC'ers! thumbs_up.gif

Well I have just been through the photos belonging to all of you and there is a lot of very good work in there. Obviously too many to possibly comment on, but you should all be very proud. thumbs_up.gif

If it wasn't for this site and all of your photos there would be no one to inspire us. I am learning a lot from everyone on here even if it is just through reading all the forum posts.

I tend just to flick quickly through most of the pictures until I see the one that i am needing at that particular time. As was said before, there are just simply too many to go through that the work has to be exceptional just to be picked out.

I agree, It dose get frustrating to look at all the pic, When the screen keeps changing on you, I have the same problem. And if you dont open each pic in a new window it goes right back to the first pic.

ConfectionsCC, this is a great way to see everyones pic. And yours are beautiful. I love the turkey It`s now in my fav.

I don't think there's any trick to it, but I know what you mean. You put hours into a cake that you love so much, and you want the rest of the world to see it and love it as much as you do! There are so many cakes on here though I find. I usually click last uploaded ones if I am looking at non specific cakes but even then I don't often click on one really unless it has a lot of detail that I'd like to see. This is mostly because my computer runs so slow lol I think the things that probably get more views are ones with a new or specific or difficult technique, or one that you don't see as often, such as quilling and stuff like that. I've noticed that with mine, I did a henna piped pattern which was rubbish but got a lot of views because people wanted to see the detail but say I did a wrestling ring, which didn't get many views because there are so many of them on there even if someone did search for it. As for adding to favourites, I don't know about everyone else but I only add stuff to my favourites when I've searched for ideas and want to use that idea. So don't take it personally, your cakes are awesome! Just because it says 150 people have viewed it, doesn't mean only that amount have seen it. I've looked at small pics before and thought wow but still not clicked the big image. Iv got my pics on Flickr and I think the most viewed one has 6 views lol. So 150 is a lot more!

I'm on the US west coast, so I try to upload my photos first thing in the morning, so I have a full 24 hours for people to see them if I want to hit the top six. I generally don't post on a Saturday, Sunday or Monday either, as I know I will have lots of competition from awesome wedding cakes. icon_smile.gif Wednesday, Thursday and Friday do tend to be slower days in my experience.

Also in my experience, your cake might be beautiful but if you haven't taken a great photo, it won't get noticed. I put almost as much effort into my photography as I do my cakes so that I have have good pics for my portfolio, and it doesn't hurt when it comes to uploading them here! If practical, I always photograph my cake in natural light outside and with a good backdrop. I also try to take a photo as close as possible while still getting all the cake in the shot so it is easier for people to see what they're looking at in the small CC thumbnails.

I see that you do take a lot of care with your photos and your cakes are really lovely, so don't be downhearted! It is sometimes the cakes that are just a little bit more unusual that get the most views or with a new technique. I myself look at and save cakes that are either simple enough for me to emulate or so spectacular that I can't stop looking at them, even though I know I could never pull them off!

I think there are so many pics posted now that it is hard to look at each one. I also look at the small pics and click on the ones that look like they will interest me the most. I do my best to leave a comment when I am saving a pic into my favorites. If I like a cake enough to save it and come back and look at it again I feel it deserves my time to comment. I am so thankful for everyone posting their cakes. They are great inspiration.

I am just the opposite. I try to post mine during the busiest times so that they don't get seen as much. lol.
For me it is just an issue of knowing I am still a beginner and have a long way to go. When I see all the cakes that are posted daily, my jaw hits the floor. I hope I can be that good one day.

@englishcakelady I agree with that totally, photos that attract me more are ones that have the white back drops and are nice and bright, mine aren't that good, I dont get a lot of natural light unless its a really sunny day so I can struggle. (i live in the north of England) I would like to start setting up something to make it look better actually I saw some instructions on here a while ago how to set up a nice little photography area in your kitchen.

@jennifercullen: I feel your pain! We've just emigrated from England to California so I know how hard it is to get a sunny day! We were in the south but my husband is from Newcastle and was always berating the weather.

Even daylight will help, it's actually better if it's not full sun then you don't have the hassle of shadows, but setting up a little indoor area is such a good idea. I saw that tutorial on here a while ago too and it was so useful. Having good photography can make all the difference.

I haven't read all the replies, but my thoughts are some of it has to do with when you are posting the pics. If you are posting at a high traffic time when many others are posting (say Sundays evenings after all the weekend cakes have gone out) then it's possible your cakes are getting bumped off the first page of the new postings quickly and no one is seeing them.

Honestly, I don't look in the gallery unless I am looking for a cake on something specific. I don't just browse cakes to be looking at them any more. To get more hits that way, make sure you use a lot of key words (that fit of course) in that section when you are posting, and your cakes will pop up on more searches.

Im just after looking at my photos views. (I thought I didnt get many views either but I just never get comments by the looks of the stats!)

Interestingly my cake in cake disasters has 3-4 times as many views as my regular cakes, some of which I was so proud of. Do more people look in the disasters folder or is it just that I posted it at a different time/day/something as discussed above?

Do you mean in the disasters forum? Asking a question about a cake that you have posted?

Then people probably read that post, then looked at the cake to see if they could offer support or answer questions about it.

Any cake you reference in a post in the forums is probably going to get more views than just cake that is posted in the galleries because you are drawing attention to it.

I have just looked at your photos and they are amazing. If it wasn't for this discussion thread, I would not have seen half of these cakes. I would love to be able to make models like yours, but no matter how much I practice, they seem to come out looking like the cookie monster or a sumo. icon_lol.gif

Being the photo gallery moderator, I spend a lot of time in the galleries, as you can imagine, so I have a different perspective on this subject.

The photos that get the most views are often ones that are unique in some way. Let's face it, no one really wants to see another Wilton class cake or another Dora cake made from the Wilton pan, hundreds of these have been posted. Some cakes have been done so many times (Toy Story bed and the rose swirl cakes are examples) that it would have to be done to a grand scale to get noticed.

I also notice that professional looking photos with a nice background catch the eye more than photos taken at the party or with messy backgrounds.

Large or unique wedding cakes seem to be popular but one thing I've also noticed is that "doable cakes" are popular. In other words, cakes that look simple enough that the average person could copy it seem to get a lot of favorites.

Don't limit yourself to what is on the front page. My first stop is always the new uploads page.

http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&meta=lastup

You can scroll through the new uploads each day and never miss a cake. I don't! icon_biggrin.gif

Also, Friday thru Monday is when most cake photos get uploaded. I don't think that matters much if people are looking at the new uploads page. Those of us in the know don't limit ourselves to the most saved or what is on the front page, so no matter when your cake is loaded, it will get views if it unique or something people are interested in.

Lastly, even I don't understand everything about what will be popular and what won't. Some of my cakes that I loved the most didn't seem to be popular here.

Just know that even if a few people have viewed your cake, then you have shared your inspiration with fellow cakers. It is so wonderful to have this site to share our work as well as find ideas. I am not very imaginative myself and most of my cake ideas come from Cake Central. I love this site!

Just wanted to answer this question because there seems to be a bit of confusion about this. When your photo gets loaded, it has 24 hours to be in the most saved cake photos today. That list is constantly changing as photos reach their 24 hour limit and drop off the list.

Any photo that has a save appears on the list so it is quite long and you can scroll through them all. But remember, it will change or update about every 10 to 15 minutes so what you saw in the morning will not be the same as in the afternoon.

If you have any more questions let me know.

I just signed on for today and am getting ready to check out all the new photos in the galleries for today. This thread has gotten me interested in the galleries again and I'm anxious to see what's new!

You have to understand too that many of us here are busy cake artists who don't have the time to look at pictures as much. It take a LOT for me to click on a picture. It has to be phenomenal for me to take the time. Sounds cold... maybe... but I don't have time to look through hundreds of pictures... even if they are amazing.
