Well I made a thread a little while ago (it seems to have disappeared?) on our first cake sale being a total flop. We made about £250 worth of baked goods ad only sold about £10 worth. This was because only about a dozen people went to the sale.
So anyway, the guy running that sale offered us a prime spot at their Christmas fair. We were very dubious about doing it, due to the last fiasco. In the end we decided to give it another go.
This time we didn't do quite so many cakes, but we did have a few extra bits and bobs, like cake balls and I also made up two dummie cakes as lures to the stall (Ive attatched pics of both below).
We worked solid for 3 days (including working full time jobs!) baking baking, icing, baking, packing.
The morning arrives ... Sunday the 5th December ... Yeah, that's right. My husband phoned me from the venue, he had got the wrong day, the sale was on Saturday.
So now he is desperately trying to find buyers. Luckily two places that took some last time have said they will take more, but that still leaves quite a few muffins and cookies.
I can not tell you how many different colours I changed, trying not to get really really mad with my hubby. But that wouldn't really solve anything.
I remember reading about your troubles last time -- I can't believe it went awry again! I'm so sorry.
But, don't give up -- we have a saying here in the States: "The third time's a charm!" Hopefully, that will hold true for you.
Oh. My. God. I applaud your restraint in not throttling your husband, but you're right, it wouldn't solve anything. I'm sorry you went to all that trouble, and hope that you can find a buyer for the rest of your merchandise.
i'm so sorry that happened! i think that cakes and cookies of that sort are a hard sell at those fairs-unless people are able to book you or eat as they're browsing i think it's hit and miss. but i don't think that means to give up either. is there anyway you can share space with someone else perhaps? i too want to do a fair but it is a crazy time of year. good luck and keep your chin up
Oh no-o. Wow. Wow Wow.
Unwrap you a nice big chocolate cupcake or something really rich and chocolatey, bite down, dig in, enjoy the moment and move on.
Such *BEAUTIFUL* work you do!!
What a shame many people didn't get the chance to observe, and taste all your hard work
By now you probably have found a home for all that wonderful stuff
Oh dear! I'm sorry to hear about all that's happened to you both!!! Well, I think we all know that hubby won't make that mistake again! I can imagine how frustrating it is; but I'm sure he feels just horrible about it. Hope things are better, and that you have much success at the NEXT fair! Wishing you a blessed holiday season!
what a shame after all your hard work, your cakes are gorgeous. I agree with k8memphis.........chocolate time!!!!
