I just finished my first MMF cake and loved the way the fondant went on the cake without tears! I had a problem with a multi-loop bow that I tried to make... the fondant did not harden enough so the loops just sagged and flattened out... I couldn't use the bow. I had made the loops according to the instructions on this site (2 days ahead of time), has anyone had this problem of the MMF not hardening??
I remember when I made the recipe, I don't think I could knead in the full 2 lbs of sugar, so would that have made the fondant stay soft?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Sorry your loops are droopy...That can be really frustrating!! icon_sad.gif Do you think your loops could have been too thick and didn't dry completely???

I've used fondant a couple times to make bows and I always added tylose to it.. It helps the fondant dry faster. Now, I make all my bows with gumpaste to avoid droopy loops!!

For MMF you will have to add cornstarch for it to dry fast and hard enough for your bows to hold ... either cornstarch or Tylose should do it... cornstarch is just much cheaper to use.. sorry about your bow icon_sad.gif

Do I need to add the cornstarch as part of the MMF recipe (if so, how much?) or just when rolling it out later? I only used the cornstarch during rolling the first time.
Thanks!!

Well personally I don't find Marshmallow fondant works well for things like this unless you add a hardening agent like Tylose or gum-tex. Personally for something like this I prefer regular rolled fondant with an additive or gumpaste. I just don't find the marshmallow fondant works well for these types of items.

The blue and white fondant covered cake in my photos is MMF with a large bow. I haven't worked with any other kind of fondant. That cake was made before the temp. and humidity got to be so bad. I think someone on here said that MMF is sensitive to humidity.
I reciently played around with gumpaste and love it, can't wait to try a bow with it.

I just recently tired to experiment with MMF and made a sample loop. It never hardened like the boxed stuff. I have to make a bow on a cake in three weeks and decided I'd better check it out before the big day. I've decided to go back to the box for the bow. It will be the only decor on the cake that is the yucky stuff. I will use MMF for the other cutouts.

Bye the way, another question. Has anyone used MMF as icing for sugar cookies? I was thinking of rolling out thin and cutting for wedding cake cookies. If I cut using the same cookie cutter, it should fit just right. Figured I'd get a nice white smooth base for adding detail. I'm experimenting, again, this weekend. I am big on planning ahead of time to ensure all goes well for the big day.

Thanks for any feedback!

I would still add a bit of a hardening agent to the regular boxed rolled fondant, just because the humidity plays havoc on these larger items. So tylose or a bit of gum-tex powder or a mixutre of 1/3 of prepared gumpaste to two thirds rolled fondant, just to be safe.
Some folks do use the marshmallow fondant on their cookies with great results!
