What flavors do you offer? I always ask people what they want thinking they would have an idea of what they like and they always say "What do you have?" If I give too many options they always say chocolate or vanilla. How many options are the best so that I have a good selection but I'm not overwhelming my customers? and what do you guys offer on your "menu"?

I'm just a home baker for friends and family, so my answer won't count for so much, but I just tell them to think of anything they could possibly want (flavor wise) and I'll see if I can do it. And then I get on here ASAP and search/ask! icon_razz.gif

i think vanilla and chocolate will always be the most popular.
then i think of other basics, like carrot, coffee, lemon.
anything else i think of as new and adventurous!
so maybe have that list, and add two 'new' flavours, like key lime, or something alcoholic? and you could have a print out of all available flavours, with the added 'or anything you can think of!'

you could have details of 'great combinations' so that you can show more exciting fillings paired up with the basic cakes.

If they need inspiration, I provide a list of my most popular flavors, but I tell them I can make anything they want. I don't limit myself at all... if I've never made what they want, then it's a great time to learn something new! A lot of my customer like to try new things, which makes me very happy icon_smile.gif

I've kind of been wondering the same thing. Some people have so many choices that I think it's overwhelming. And then I look at The Cake Girls website and they really just have a few main cakes and they switch around the frostings and fillings. I need something more in between I think. =o)

I've found that if they don't know what they want it's a little easier to ask them what they don't like and go from there.

I'm willing to make any flavour as well like PinkZiab. One of my most popular cakes is a coconut cake that is made with coconut milk and not shredded coconut. Then any flavour between layers is amazing. Oh, and zebra cake. That one just looks so cool when it's cut. icon_biggrin.gif

I do the same thing. If someone asks me to make something I haven't made before, I most of the times say, "sure" and then get here ASAP and search. Everyone is so generous with sharing their recipes! I LOVE this site!
