I have someone that wants 70 mini 2 tiered fondant wedding cakes...minor detail, just plain white with a red ribbon on the bottom...what should i charge?

I'm guessing that you're talking about like a 3" and 2" stacked cake like the little pan where they're baked all in one piece (the 2 mini tiers)...I charge around $20.00 for the mini tiered ones...those little buggers are a total PAIN!! Here's a pic of one I did in fondant and I had to wrap the fondant around the tiers and then cut a circle of fondant for the tops they were soooo hard to cover without the cake squishing!! Just terrible!!!

yes but a little smaller and 2 tiers...i was gonna make them from a sheet cake, cut with two round cookie cutters in circle shapes...what do you think...then buttercream and fondant.

Just because they're small doesn't mean they "just cake" and that they'll be no big deal. The small ones are really difficult to ice/cover and decorate. Why don't you make one and see how long it take to do it, from start to finish? Then you'll have a better idea of the time involved. Once you know how long for one then multiply that by 70...I think you'll be surprised!

If you charge less than $20 each for them you'll be kicking yourself at 3 in the morning with "only" 25 more to go...

Also remember that you'll have to make 70 little cake boards, and transport 70 little cakes...Does she want them in boxes? That will add to the cost.

Just for comparison's sake, I looked at the Godiva website, and they're selling a box with 4 little wedding cake-shaped chocolates for $38 each. No insult to candy makers, but I've made candy before and it doesn't take nearly as long, or cost nearly as much, to make 4 filled chocolates as it does to make a mini wedding cake.

They are not paying for "the cake". They are paying for the time. If they only wanted to pay for "the cake", they can buy 70 packs of Twinkies.

Mini cakes are a PAIN to do!!! I'm sorry I don't have a suggestion with cost, but I've made only 2 mini cakes, and I never want to do that again.....

People find them cute and think that being small they may cost less but they are more difficult to work with, use more ingredients/materials and take more time to do than a large cake. Once, just to try, I made single ones, well I actually used flat topped cupcakes. I tried covering in BC and couldn't get it smooth, they ended with a spikey look. I also did some covered in fondant. They are a pain!! I can't imagine trying to stack them (leveling them, keeping them straight, etc).

I agree with moxey2000 suggestion: make some and then determine how much you would charge for them. It can help bring a better perspective.
