9" Contour Pan

I have 9" rounded top pan and need to sit on another base cake to make 2 layers. Would it be best to sit on 8" or 10" round. Not good at carving or shaping so the less I would have to do the better. Hoping to be fondant covered. Any suggestions? TIA
