No. As far as I know, it is not sold at hardware stores...at least not around here... It is quite cheap at countrykitchensa.com Its about $3 for 5 sheets I believe.
thank you so much for sharing!!! Can't wait to try!! You make it look and sound so easy!! Never works out that way for me!!
Thank you Sarsi. I am a visual learner so I love when people care enough to take the time for picture tutorials. I made one the other night but after seeing this I can see what I did wrong! For example taping the wrong side and getting the crack, duh never realized my mistake until now. Thanks again.
Sarsi,
I used your instructions to wrap a 10" cake for Halloween. I practiced on an 8" and it was so easy I thought I would be successful at the larger cake. I prepared the cake with a layer of bc and when I had the chocolate prepared, I used a fondant smoother to help press it up against the sides. It worked so well it was really exciting. The only hitch was that I had to piece the base because I needed it to be like 32 " (I used an old Wilton rolling mat...the kind that is just laminated paper..such a disappointment...but another topic) and where I butted the ends together and taped with clear package tape, it kind of came to a slight point. On the cake, I had made choc. transfer ghosts so I just stuck a ghost there to hide it. Thanks again for the step-by-step pictures and instructions. They were a big help.
Hi there,
I'm wondering where I can purchase acetate paper? I'm from a very small town (5,000 ppl) and don't have any cake supply stores near by. Can this be purchased at a hardware store or grocery store?
thanks,
Yvonne
countrykitchensa.com Carries it. I have never seen it anywhere but a cake supply store.
Im sure other cake supply stores have it also but I ordered mine from this site!
Thank you all for the helpful information! I have a question, when you transfer the cake from the "decorating plate" to the display/serving plate or board, is there a chance that the chocolate will crack when moved?
I tried a chocolate wrap over the weekend and wrapped it on the serving plate because I was worried that the move would crack it.
Thanks!
Thank you very much Sarah. I have never tried it, you make it look easy. Maybe I will give it a shot and surprise my family this Thanksgiving. They love when I bake for home.
Thanks so much Sarsi! and you're pictorials are a BIG help to a person like me, I learn better when I see it. So thanks for taking the time to put this up for everyone.
Happy belated birthday, Sara! When are you coming back to the cupcake thread? Nice job on the chocolate wraps. I want to try this some day!
Well I did it!!!!!! i was so excited the way it turned out! heres a link if it works...lol
